If you're not drinking wines from here, you should probably start. Since my inception into the world of wine over a decade ago, the Loire Valley has always held a special place in my glass.
Vineyards hugging the shoreline of the longest river in France, the region is split into 4 subregions, sprawling north and south on the embankments of the Loire River, starting inland at Nevers, following east to where it
meets the ocean.
It's not the well known Cote D'Or wines of Burgundy, or the extracted reds of the 1st growth Bordeaux, but the region boasts its own identity and many varietal expressions.
The region grows Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, Melon du Bourgogne, Gamay, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay.
Better known are the wines from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume (Sauvignon Blanc). The Cabernet Franc of Chinon, and the Muscadet-Sevre et Maine on the coast.... just to name a few.
The region offers fruit forward reds, high acid whites, and traditionally made sparkling.
Price points across the region often over deliver on value. Why pay for a name, it is really just grapes...

This Chenin Blanc comes from a quality producer who regularly offers a varietally classic representation of Chenin Blanc from the Loire.
