It's official. Brisbane will be the first airport in the world to integrate cryptocurrency for everyday transactions. Partnering with TravelbyBit, a cryptocurrency payment system, coin holders will be able to spend their Bitcoin, Ether, and Dash in restaurants and coffee shops. There has been a great deal of FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) lately among the crypto community due to news of new regulations in South Korea and the United States. Australia's embrace of cryptocurrency - particularly for everyday retail commerce - should come as excellent news to cryptocurrency and blockchain enthusiasts.
Roel Hellemons, the General Manager of Strategic Planning and Development is quoted as saying that "many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals.”
Australia's move may be yet another bullish sign that growing awareness, recognition, and adoption of cryptocurrency will lead to a future dominated by the blockchain.
