In tonight's art class, the instructor suggested I start just with shades and tones, and let the shapes emerge, and only then to start working on fine tuning the shapes. I feel good about this one. It took me out of my comfort zone, and into a this very satisfying piece. Focus, shade, light. I've studied algorithms how to make things look realistic. Doing it with no algorithms, just paper and charcoal is a completely different thought process.
