Hello to the entire anime community, I hope you all receive my warmest greetings. Today, I want to share with you a lesser-known and rather unconventional anime. It's a psychological horror gem called "Kite," and I hope you enjoy it.
The story centers on Sawa, a young student who, after losing her parents to murder at a young age, is taken in by two corrupt police officers, Akai and Kanie. They promise to give her the tools she needs to avenge her parents' deaths and turn her into an elite assassin with a fixed salary. At first glance, it seems her guardians are interested in her well-being; however, the underlying reality is much darker. Sawa is immersed in a hostile environment filled with violence and is raped by her guardians, forced to kill the criminals they choose.
La historia se centra en Sawa una joven estudiante que tras perder a sus padres asesinados a temprana edad es acogida por dos policías corruptos Akai y Kanie los cuales le prometen darles las herramientas necesarias para vengar la muerte de sus padres y la convierten en una asesina de élite con sueldo fijo. A simple vista parece que sus tutores están interesados en el bienestar de ella sin embargo el trasfondo es mucho más oscuro Sawa es sumergida en un ambiente hostil lleno de violencia y es violada por sus tutores obligada a matar a los criminales que ellos decidan
However, the story takes a dramatic turn when it's revealed that Sawa's father's killers are actually her own guardians, who meticulously orchestrated the murder to take her in and exploit her. Sawa also meets Oburi, a young man who, like her, is another assassin under the control of Sawa's guardians. The two begin to develop romantic feelings for each other and plan a swift escape from their exploiters to live a peaceful life together.
No obstante, la historia da un giro de 180 grados al descubrirse que, en realidad, la verdadera identidad de los asesinos del padre de Sawa son sus propios tutores, quienes organizaron meticulosamente el asesinato para poder quedarse con ella y así explotarla.Sawa también conoce a Oburi, un joven que, al igual que ella, es otro asesino bajo el dominio de los tutores de Sawa. Ambos comienzan a desarrollar sentimientos amorosos el uno por el otro y planean escapar rápidamente de las garras de sus explotadores para vivir juntos una vida tranquilos
This story, adapted into two OVAs written by Yasuomi Umetsu in 1998, depicts the corrupt and violent world of the era. It is highly praised for its animation, which is remarkably realistic and polished for its time. However, it was heavily criticized in countries outside of Japan, as the two OVAs contain very explicit scenes that could be considered child pornography. Therefore, to obtain an international license, some adjustments were made, omitting these scenes and combining them into a single film. Interestingly, in 2014, these OVAs were adapted into a live-action film called Kite, starring India Eisley and Samuel L. Jackson. For me, watching it was quite impactful; however, it doesn't detract from how good the film is. The plot carries a powerful message regarding real-life situations experienced in countries like Japan and Latin America. I highly recommend it, as it's not tedious and has absolutely no filler. Although the ending is negative, I would have liked Sawa to have her fairytale happy ending. However, one of the premises that the film brings us is that, regardless of the origin of the criminal, he will never have a good ending.
Esta historia, convertida en dos OVA escritas por Yasuomi Umetsu en 1998, muestra el mundo de corrupción y violencia de la época. Es muy elogiada por su animación, que resulta bastante realista y pulcra para la época en la que fue lanzada. Sin embargo, fue fuertemente criticada en países fuera de Japón, ya que las dos OVA contienen escenas muy explícitas que pueden ser consideradas como pornografía infantil. Por ello, para que la obra fuese licenciada internacionalmente, se realizaron algunos ajustes, omitiendo esas escenas y fusionándolas en una sola película. Un dato interesante es que en 2014 estas OVA tuvieron un live action llamado Kite, protagonizado por India Eisley y Samuel L. Jackson. Para mí, verla fue bastante impactante; sin embargo, no le quita lo buena que es la película. La trama tiene un mensaje poderoso respecto a situaciones reales que se viven en países como Japón o en Latinoamérica. La recomiendo bastante, ya que no es pesada y no tiene absolutamente ni un minuto de relleno. Aunque el final es negativo, me hubiese gustado que Sawa tuviera su final feliz de cuento. Sin embargo, una de las premisas que nos trae la película es que, sin importar el origen del criminal, nunca tendrá un buen final.
