It is important that we strive to keep our promises for one another. God is a promise keeping God. We ourselves should also learn to keep our promises for one another. Lovers of God should not make empty promises. It is against the promise of God to say what we cannot do. To make the people of the world believe in our God, we must be the people who keep our word. Faithfulness is a costly virtue. Keeping our promises to everyone not only our children is something that is good. The word of God teaches us that our yes should be yes and our no should be no.
The way we train our children is the way that they will live. When we teach our children to be faithful and trustworthy, we building a foundation that we make us to dwell safely with one another. When we can trust that what our children are telling us are truthful, we are going to believe them always. In the same way, when our words are always kept, we will become trustworthy before our children. It is not a good thing if we lie to our children. It is not a playful thing to always make promises which we ourselves cannot keep.
