I was bit four years late watching this series and finally I get to watch the whole episodes without waiting for next episodes. Okay so what is this series about? It is called Sonic Highways.
This is a documentary from an iconic American Rock band Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl, the singer of Foo Fighters whom also responsible directing this mini series. Sonic Highways is a musical journey into eight cities in America. Every song inside of the album were produce on each of cities they've been to. They traveled in eight different legendary recording studios that already making impact to American music. Writing and recording on each legendary studios.
The documentary also interviewed various of influential musician in American from Bluegrass into Jazz musicians such as Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Billy Gibbons, Dr John, Buddy Guy, Josh Homme, Henry Rollins, Ben Gibbard and many more. Dave Grohl did interviewed ex American President Barrack Obama and famous producers such as Rick Rubin, Jimmy Iovine and etc.
I was literally blown away with this tv series because it's not just evolving the American music but also throughout the world. I was influence with a lot of American songwriters and musical too. It just changes my perspective on elaborating of my own songwriting process. Without a doubt the american music really impact the music here in Malaysia too.
The best part of this series is when each episodes it always ended up with a music video on of Foo Fighters. My favorite track in this album was I Am a River. This documented mini series is a must watch for those aspiring musicians out there. Sonic Highways is a following project from Dave Grohl's documentary film Sound City in 2013. From Sound City, he believes that telling the stories of music and recording it as an album giving more depth of music and meaning behind the song.
