Hello friends lovers of beautiful nature
The rock monastery of St. Nicholas is located high in the rocks about 12 km from my town Lukovit in Bulgaria.Until 10 years ago, the monastery was hidden from human eyes by dense vegetation and impassable forest
The only access to the monastery was possible only through an extreme goat trail dug into the forest and rocks, of which few people knew.
With a group of enthusiastic friends of mine, we decided to take on the difficult task of restoring this unique place. We received financial support from a local businessman, and with his help we embarked on this difficult endeavor. Our goal was to strengthen and restore its remains, to provide normal access to it and to promote it as an interesting tourist destination. What we found there was a half-ruined place devastated by natural disasters and also by raids by treasure hunters over the years. At the cost of a lot of work and money, in a few years we managed to bring the monastery in the form in which I will show it to you today.
We still have a lot of work to do. The monastery has not been completely restored, but after our intervention the situation here is completely different.
Here we have already made a pass through the forest and we have built massive concrete steps with a railing, for easier and more convenient access to the
monastery.Currently, the monastery is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the area of the town of Lukovit. Thanks to our efforts in recent years, today hundreds of visitors come here from Bulgaria and even from abroad.Very close in the area are also Prohodna Cave , the stone houses and rock fenomen Povartenika for which I posted here some time ago.
The monastery is located on the left bank of the river Iskar and the area around it is extremely beautiful and picturesque.I decided to do this post now because it's autumn outside and autumn is a wonderful season filled with amazing colors.
For several years I have personally committed myself to supporting of the monastery and the area around it. I am an administrator on his Facebook page, and I am also often a tour guide for large tourist groups that I accompany in the area.Apart from my commitment, this place has also become my favorite destination for nature walks with friends, fishing and picnics over the weekend. I come here several times a week for a walk. The nature around is beautiful. I took some pictures during walks in the last week.
As I already told you, I am responsible for the supporting of the area.
Yesterday my friend and I decided to combine the useful with the pleasant. My idea is to take a nice walk and then we clean the area from the huge mass of fallen autumn leaves from the trees. We leave around 9 in the morning.
The road from the town to the monastery is about 15 mn by car, and is also very picturesque in autumn.
We arrive around 9:30
Here we have a large amount of fallen leaves that we need to clean :)
Before we start work, however, I decided to make you a virtual walk to the monastery itself :)
The unique book of wishes, where each visitor can write their deepest wish
After was showing you the monastery, it's time to we get to work :)
**In the last few years, so many visitors have come here that I already have a fairly rich archive of crowded wish books that I keep at home.People believe that the monastery is a magical place and come here in the hope that their wishes will come true.
This is where I plan to end my post. I wish everyone a pleasant and peaceful Sunday. May your wishes and dreams also come true, and most of all be healthy!
