Hace poco me enteré de que Mike Flanagan, creador de "The Haunting Of Hill House" y "The Haunting of Bly Manor" (dos espectaculares series de terror), realizo una serie basada en varios cuentos de mi querido Edgar Allan Poe que será estrenada en octubre, la cual lleva por nombre "The Fall of the House of Usher", en español "La caída de la casa Usher", uno de los cuentos cortos más conocidos y aclamados de Edgar. Al descubrir esto obviamente me emocioné mucho, ahora espero la producción con ansias, mi emoción es tanta que me releí el cuento y aquí vengo a hablarles un poco sobre el más, contarles un dato curioso.

La caída de la casa Usher nos cuenta la historia de un hombre que recibe una invitación de Roderick Usher (su amigo de infancia) para que asista a su vieja casa, una casa que apenas vislumbra le causa unas emociones negativas arrolladoras, una profunda tristeza. Los Usher son una familia de linaje de antaño y Roderick es un ser excéntrico que se encuentra enfermo tanto física como mentalmente, así que pide la compañía de su amigo para ver si de alguna forma mejora, ya que este vive solo con su hermana, quien también se encuentra enferma. La historia se va desarrollando y la hermana de Roderick es quien muere, este suceso desencadena una serie de acontecimientos misteriosos, terroríficos e inquietantes de los que nuestro protagonista será espectador.

I recently found out that Mike Flanagan, creator of "The Haunting Of Hill House" and "The Haunting of Bly Manor" (two spectacular horror series), made a series based on several stories by my beloved Edgar Allan Poe to be released in October, which is called "The Fall of the House of Usher", one of Edgar's most famous and acclaimed short stories. When I discovered this I was obviously very excited, now I'm anxiously awaiting the production, my excitement is so high that I reread the story and here I come to tell you a little about it and share a curious fact.

The fall of the house of Usher tells us the story of a man who receives an invitation from Roderick Usher (his childhood friend) to attend his old house, a house that as soon as he glimpses it causes him overwhelming negative emotions, a deep sadness. The Ushers are a family of old lineage and Roderick is an eccentric being who is physically and mentally ill, so he asks for his friend's company to see if he can somehow get better, as he lives alone with his sister, who is also ill. The story unfolds and Roderick's sister is the one who dies, this event triggers a series of mysterious, terrifying and disturbing events of which our protagonist will be a spectator.

Este cuento corto de terror nos muestra una historia sobre un descenso a la locura, nos habla de enfermedad, decadencia y muerte de una manera sublime -al mejor estilo narrativo de Edgar- donde se detalla muy minuciosamente cada aspecto, permitiendo al lector imaginarse todo al pie de la letra. Es impresionante como Poe logra contar una historia tan complicada de una manera tan detallada en muy pocas páginas, no por algo es considerado un maestro universal del relato corto.

El terror psicológico es algo que abunda en La caída de la casa Usher y el cómo la casa de esta conectada a la familia Usher es un factor de la historia que encuentro fascinante. Edgar logró en un relato corto contar una historia con una profundidad increíble con tan solo tres personajes principales, esto nos muestra que una gran historia no necesita ser larga o llena de personajes para crear un impacto, incluso una historia con un solo personaje, puede llegar a causar gran impresión.

This short tale of terror shows us a story about a descent into madness, it speaks of illness, decadence and death in a sublime way -in Edgar's best narrative style- where every aspect is very meticulously detailed, allowing the reader to imagine everything accurately. It is impressive how Poe manages to tell such a complicated story in such a detailed way in very few pages, not for nothing he is considered a universal master of the short story.

Psychological horror is something that is abundant in The Fall of the House of Usher and how the house is connected to the Usher family is a factor in the story that I find fascinating. Edgar managed in a short tale tell a story with incredible depth with only three main characters, this shows us that a great story doesn't need to be long or full of characters to create an impact, even a story with only one character, can still make a great impression.

Este relato de Edgar, como muchos de los que ya he hablado con anterioridad, es una lectura totalmente indispensable si te gusta el autor y disfrutas del género de terror. Las historias de Edgar (para quienes no han leído alguna) son muy buenas y de cultura general, sus escritos abarcan diversos géneros, la manera en que escribe en su momento fue muy innovadora y hoy día pocos lo igualan, su nombre quedo para la historia.

Si quieres leer un buen relato corto de terror, te recomiendo La caída de la casa Usher y otras grandes historias de Edgar. 🤓

El dato curioso del que les quería hablar es que yo recuerdo haber visto en mi pre adolescencia junto a mis padres en DVD una adaptación de La caída de la casa Usher en formato de película. En esta adaptación la protagonista era una chica que llegaba a la casa donde vivían los dos hermanos Usher, esta chica se enamora del chico, pero había algo raro entre él y su hermana, también recuerdo un lugar subterráneo y la muerte de la hermana... Intente buscar la película en Google y no la consigo, si alguien la ha visto y sabe su nombre, por fa hágamelo saber, no creo habérmelo imaginado. 🤔

This story by Edgar, like many of the ones I have talked about before, is a must read if you like the author and enjoy the horror genre. Edgar's stories (for those who have not read any) are very good and of general culture, his writings cover various genres, the way he writes at the time was very innovative and today few equal him, his name remained for history.

If you want to read a good horror short story, I recommend The Fall of the House of Usher and other great stories by Edgar. 🤓

The curious fact that I wanted to talk about is that I remember watching in my pre-adolescence with my parents on DVD an adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher in movie format. In this adaptation the main character was a girl who came to the house where the two Usher siblings lived, this girl falls in love with the boy, but there was something strange between him and his sister, I also remember a subterranean place and the sister's death... I tried to google the movie and I can't find it, if anyone has seen it and knows its name, please let me know, I don't think I imagined it. 🤔
