This is one of my favorite looking snakes from my Snake Monday series ! Today i will give you more facts about the Gabon Viper.
Gaboon Viper/Gabon Viper
The Gabon Viper can be found in central, southern and eastern Africa. It reaches up to 2 meters and weights maximum 8kg and its the largest African venomous snake. The Gaboon viper is a broad-headed snake with two hornlike projections on its snout. Their teethes can reach up to 5cm which makes it the snake with longest fangs. The snake feeds on small animals, waiting them in ambush to attack. It releases a big amount of poison and in very rare cases it can cause instant death. The bite is healed with injecting a big amount of anti-toxic serum. The snake has a great body pattern, that provides excellent camouflage and allows this viper to become nearly invisible among leaves and roots of the forest floor. It only bites with immediate provocation and it start hissing when you get closer. The Gabon viper breeds every 2-3 years, giving birth to around 30 live young.
