This is an entry for the Austrian Art and Culture CHALLENGE Week #4 from .
The Altlerchenfelder Parish Church of the Seven Refuges is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the district Altlerchenfeld (7th). It is art historically interesting in that it forms a kind of transitional work between classicism and historicism in architecture. This church architecture in its combination of architecture and painting is regarded as an example of a total work of art in the sense of the Romantic concept of art. It is also one of the major works of historicism in Viennese architecture. From outside the church is very beautiful with a lot of details on it. I didnt had the chance that day to enter and make picture from inside, but from what i saw in internet is just amazing and worth visiting.
Interesting fact is that first a classicist church was planned from Paul Sprenger, but because of cost reasons, he switched to a simpler design in the Roman Renaissance style.
