'Figure Wars'
Did you guys ever play Warhammer or a similar game? It is a board game easily recognized by the little figures of monster soldiers. They are usually custom made but it's not the rule. One can also buy them.
If you come across a board looking like a 3D model of a battlefield and see a few nerdy chaps carrying dice and little rulers while moving the figures - that's it - you are watching a Warhammer game in all its glory.
I've never played it, so cannot be sure of the actual rules but, from observing the game shortly on a few occasions, I've figured out it has to do with the distance between the figures, their characteristics and dice. Yes, there is the element of luck.
However, even though I doubt it can resemble chess from afar, there might be a bit of strategy in it, too. What I can tell with certainty is that some of those guys paint their soldiers with such a precision that it could be called artistic.
Today's generations are born and raised with computers. There is a more dynamic, more appealing computer version of the game in existence. However, actively playing a board game is a benefit as opposed to endless hours spent in front of the screen. The benefit would've been even greater if the game was played outside. Some little fresh air can do a lot of good.
