started a new challenge, the 7-days culture challenge. In this challenge you have to write about things that are typical for the culture of your country. I was nominated by him which I think is great because there is so much to write about culture and I would like to read about different cultures to see possible resembles or the opposite.. great way to get to know eachother and our backgrounds even better..
Typical Dutch food
There are several dishes and food's (addition's) which are typically Dutch or we want to believe they are :)
Some of them I really find a delicacy, others I rather skip.

Stroopwafels
Stroopwafels are a real sweet delicacy in Holland and they are conquer the world.
I the Dutch news there was an article about a real 'Stroopwafel war' in the United States. The american people really do love the Dutch stroopwafel so much so a lot of Dutch companies wanted to be the first to deliver in the states...
A stroopwafel is a biscuit consisting of two parts (the wafels) , between them there is a sweet sirup (stroop) .
They are great with coffee and I really like them when they are still warm. One trick you can do with packed stroopwafels is to lay your stroopwafel for a minute above your cup of coffee.. It warms up and taste like a charm :).

Drop
Although Drop isn't a Dutch invention, Holland is famous for it's drop. Drop is a candy made out of boiled sugar and flavours. You have them in all kinds of flavours and colours, but in Holland mostly it is black drop.

Because Holland has a rather cold climat (for winters) we are excellent in creating winter-stews.
A winter-stew often consist of a vegetable mixed with potatoes and a gravy. It has to be rich of vitamins and nutricion for the workers on farms and in the field.

Boerenkool (Farmers Kale) is a vegetable whichs is harvested in winter when the temperature has been at least below zero for one night. It is often eaten with smoked sausage and pickles.

Hutspot is a stew made out of winter carrot, potatoes and onions. You do them together in a saucepan and leave it on fire until you can mix it all together and it is cooked 'very well done'.. Often it is server with smoked sausage too or with beef.

split pea soup is a soup which is reallt eaten in the winter. A Dutch tradition is to have a 'Koek and Sopie' venting place at ICE skate tracks in the villages. It's a soup with all kind of vegetable's, split peas and potatoes. When it's cooked it will be mashed in the saucepan until there is one solid soup. Often there will be smoked sausauge in it and a pork leg (hips).. That last one, hips, yek, I don't like at all..

Of course there are a lot of other food that might be considered Dutch, but for now you have quite a good idea of our cultural food :)
