When I was about 14 years old me and my best friend loved (and I still do) rock and metal music. At that time not accepted in the age we were in ;). Classmates thought we were trash and lunatics hahaha but we didn't cared.
We were always looking for music, bands and places were we could watch bands, but hey... we were only fourteen and couldn't go to bars and venues.. At that time they didn't watch for the ages in bars but our parents did....bummer...
On a saturday afternoon we cycled along "De barak" , which is a barrack, not for the army but it just looked like it.
Source a punk band playing in De barak.
We heared music comming from the building and parked our bicyles to have a look. When we entered the building we saw a band rehearsing. We didn't knew the band but we sure did know they sounded awesome...They played a lot of Ozzy Osbourne songs. It didn't seem to bother the guys we were watching them so we took a seat and let the music speak to us..... We were impressed by the sound and resemblance of the music to the original of Ozzy himself. The guitarist, who I didn't knew at that time, was shredding the axe like Randy Rhoads himself.... If I closed my eyes I just heard the album "a Tribute to Randy rhoads" .
After that first visit we came back to their rehearsals almost every week, we considered it our private gig.. I think they liked it too because they never asked us to leave and even were talking to us....how cool is that :P
The band was called "Metal Remorse" and we actually never seen them perform on a gig. But boy, they were good. And of course we had our private gigs :)
Years later I ran into the guitarist again, he directed a jam session in a bar which I visited quiet a lot. When I bought my first electric guitar I participated in the Jamm session often, it was fun playing with other musicians. One of the guys always around was Rene, an quiet guy whom played the guitar too. When I asked him if he played along on the jam session he first said he didn't felt to, but after me pushing him he finally went up on stage, I didn't knew what I was hearing.... He was such a gifted guitarist....played along with all musicians and playing solo's where even Joe Satriani would be speechless about :)
I have some great memories about that time, every thursday jamming along, getting to know the local music scene, and most important making lots a music...
Speaking of which.... I do have some cool stories to share about making music ;)
Will be continued,
Have a great evening,
Peter
