(Stone carving piece of False door stela)
Today we continue to see the artifacts and history of the Old Kingdom period. I would like share with you some small daily necessities from a provincial burial, which was located in the Gebelein.
A provincial burial
In my previous posts, I talked many time one place name , which is Gebelein, it lies on the west bank of the Nile 30 km south of present day Luxor, is an interesting peripheral location, which ,however, housed the remains of an important provincial town. Among the many tombs found here, mainly thanks to the assistance and advice of one of Schiaparelli's most valuable collaborators, the Egyptian Bolos Ghattas - was a large Old Kingdom mastaba found in here. Ernesto Schiaparelli was an Italian Egyptologist (He was appointed director of the Egyptian Museum in Florence, where he professionally reorganized the collection in new quarters in 1880, then at the peak of his career was made director of the Museo Egizio di Torino, which became with him and his many seasons of excavating, the second biggest Egyptian museum in the world -- From wikipedia). The objects recovered here, although some were devastated by termites, offer a unique opportunity to study a burial assemblage of fairly high-ranking individual who lived far away from the court about 4400 years ago. I would like show some daily necessities from this large Old Kingdom mastaba possible built for a nobleman called Perim.
Small wooden casket (2435 - 2305 BC)
Armlet and wooden box and calcite vessels originally kept inside (2435 - 2305 BC)
Shell, small jar, bowl and box (2435 -2305 BC)
Coffin
This one is same as above antiques, they are from different tombs. Among the tombs discovered in 1911, one is particularly interesting for its especially rare grave goods. In a decorated rectangular chest similar to that of Perim, graced with a 'palace-facade' motif, was a bundle of bandages. Non-destructive tests have shown that it contains a body in very contracted position and a headrest of the double-column type. [//]:# (!steemitworldmap 45.0684296 lat 7.6843041 long ME11 d3scr)
