This is something I wanted to do for quite some time.
I am a huge fan of Hip-Hop culture, particularly what comes out from my tiny country of Lithuania. You know, one of the Baltics. What's cool is that Lithuanian is considered to be the oldest surviving Indo-European language and one of two surviving languages from huge Baltic family. -> Source
Anyway, just know that Lithuanian is really old and unique language. What I want to do is give you a chance to hear it, but in a very sophisticated way of communication - Hip-Hop music. Mostly underground stuff. True gems that are pretty rare these days.
Just so you know, I've had an opportunity to watch these artist grow for about 8 years already. I got to say, they got waaay better over time. So without further ado let's get started (this is strictly opinion based. That last one is my personal favourite though):
5. Lilas
Oh, he's the one who made it BIG along with his buddy Innomine. Just check one of the latest hits called "Tu privalai skambėt" ("You must keep on sounding"? Eh, I guess my translations will suck) - it has over 3 million views already!
Also they bring thousands of people to their concerts and win those fancy awards. It's nice to see them evolve from streets like that. But just if you're curious, here's how it was back in 2012 ("Kur tu?", or "Where are you?"):
Check out his Facebook Page or Youtube Channel
4. Themyouandm3
Also known as "Erkė". Im this list he is the youngest of them all, but he definitely one of the most "technically adaptive", if I could say so. Just check these videos and decide by yourself:
If that's the one you like, here's his Facebook Page or Youtube Channel
3. Karu
Karu is an old-timer and the main reason I got interested in Lithuanian Hip-Hop in the first place. I even remember the song that changed the way I listen to music forever. Here it is, right from 2009 with stunning 3,8 million views (Cukrus citrinoj", or "Sugar in lemon":
Though my favourite songs are these - "Kai pagalvoji ("When you think about it") and the other one:
Sadly, I don't know his Youtube channel, but you can find a lot of his music just by doing a quick Youtube search
2. Domas
Another old-timer that has quite a following since forever, just like Karu. Like, literally, they live in the same part of town in Klaipėda. That's why they have a lot of songs together from way back then. And by the way, do you notice how different they all sound?
"Nepakeliui", or "Out of the Way":
He has a great Youtube channel where you can find not only his, but many rappers songs. It's called "One Love"
1. Micro one
Aaand my favourite of all - Micro one. He's the one I consider to be a great lyricist. Not only that, he varies between styles and personas, so it's never boring and almost always surprising. For example, sometimes you hear old out-dated Lithuanian songs sampled in and it's quite good:
Other songs that are too good to miss out on:
Don't forget to check his Facebook Page and Youtube channel. He has much more to offer.
And I lied! There's actually 2 bonuses. One of them is this song with all top three called "Veidrodis", or "The mirror":
But more importantly, now is the time when Lithuanian Online Hip-Hop battle of 2016-2017 begins! And there's 107 MC's who are competing with each other in a form of constructed theme songs. If you by chance would like to hear all off them in their first attempt at selective phase.
Here's the playlist of all 107 songs
If you ever want to cast a vote for your favourite, you can do that here .
