Hoy les comparto mi visita a la Plaza El Estudiante, ubicada en la calle Mariño de Cumaná, estado Sucre. La plaza rinde homenaje a un reconocido estudiante llamado Zuloaga. Según el personal encargado de su mantenimiento, este joven se enfrentó al gobierno del entonces presidente Juan Vicente Gómez y su vida terminó trágicamente. Era un estudiante brillante de Cumaná, y esta plaza se erigió en reconocimiento a su participación en las protestas contra las políticas del presidente.

Today I'm sharing my visit to Plaza El Estudiante (Student Plaza), located on Mariño Street in Cumaná, Sucre State. The plaza pays homage to a well-known student named Zuloaga. According to the staff responsible for its maintenance and upkeep, this young man confronted the government of then-President Juan Vicente Gómez, and his life ended tragically. He was a brilliant student from Coman, and this plaza was erected because of his role in the protests against the policies implemented by the president.
Notable for its abundant trees and ornamental plants, including bougainvillea and other flowering plants, which give it a beautiful, nature-filled appearance, the plaza features several concrete walkways and paths. Gardens are located along its sides, and there are also several benches. A bus stop is conveniently located nearby, and across the street are various shops and banks. Situated in the heart of the city, it's a welcome oasis for those seeking respite from the heat. A well-known gentleman has also been selling coconut water in the plaza for many years.
La escultura se ubica en el centro de la plaza, en una especie de rotonda desde la cual cuatro senderos conducen a diferentes lugares. The sculpture is located in the center of the plaza in a kind of roundabout from which four walkways lead to different places. Very close to the roundabout there is a poster that says "Sucre, I love you" which corresponds to the group in charge of cleaning and maintaining this plaza. The benches are located in the concrete areas and have a blue stripe on the edges and the base is brick-colored. In the photograph, several of the trees can be seen, which are painted with a white stripe and a red stripe on the back. We see the shape of the roundabout and the paths that branch off from it towards the different points of the plaza. Between the roundabout and the walkways are small walls that form the gardens.
The pedestal on which the sculpture rests is black and has a rectangle and a square at its base that serve as supports. Around it are several plants and benches. From the front, we see only the bust of the sculpture, which is adorned with a sack. The base is made of black granite and is surrounded by large trees. Along the walkways, we see benches on the edges and ornamental plants. In another view, we see part of the roundabout, the walkways, and more benches. Among the plants are baskets, and we have a view of the sculpture and its surroundings. Around it is a circle, then a wide walkway that branches off into the walkways.
Continuando nuestro recorrido por esta plaza, observamos detenidamente las plantas de capacho y sus llamativas flores con manchas rojas, así como los cactus lirio, que no se ven comúnmente en las plazas. Me sorprendió ver esta planta aquí; normalmente, se encuentran plantas con flores y grandes árboles que proporcionan sombra y frescura debido al clima cálido que prevalece en la ciudad. Continuing our tour of this plaza, we closely observed the capacho plants and their striking flowers with red spots, as well as lily cactus plants, which are not commonly seen in plazas. I was surprised to see this plant here; usually, you find flowering plants and large trees to provide shade and coolness due to the warm climate that prevails in the city. The plaza has several gardens and large plants located among the walkways and benches. I liked this plaza for its beautiful gardens, which are well-maintained and have grass in most areas. In addition to the plants mentioned, there is a plant with white flowers, large palm trees around it, and an area covered by capacho plants. At the back, there are several residences and commercial establishments, and the large trees serve as a boundary between the avenue and the plaza. This is the first time I have visited this plaza. I liked its design and abundant trees, which I have seen in most of the plazas in the city, characterized by the presence of ornamental plants and large trees.
