Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.
in this post (I mean, for this week's Social Media Challenge) I'm going to talk about my thoughts on the upcoming new edition of #splinterlands. REBELLION. I won't go into detail (just a few parts). But if you want the official explanation directly, you can check it out here
NEW EDITION IS COMING
The fifth new edition of Splinterlands (REBELLION) will be officially released in a few months (December 5, 2023, to be precise). With the new Edition, the UNTAMED Edition (and its mini-edition: DICE, as well as rewards and promo cards that have similar frame cards) can no longer be used in the MODERN League. They will be replaced by REBELLION and its mini-edition (TBA). However, this change will only be implemented (probably) in conjunction with the official release date of the REBELLION Edition. So, for now until December 5, players playing in the MODERN League will still be using cards from the UNTAMED and CHAOS LEGION editions (and their respective mini-editions: DICE and RIFTWATCHER).
I just found some combinations that require me to use cards from UNTAMED edition (I mean the ones with the signature card frame from UNTAMED Edition). But in less than 2 months, I can't use those combinations in MODERN League. some of those cards are:
| Nightmare who already has the PHASE ability is very suitable when combined with the Legendary summoner Astral Entity (from CHAOS LEGION Edition) who has the DODGE ability. With these 2 abilities, Nightmare has a high chance of successfully dodging attacks from all types of monsters (Melee, Ranged, or Magic). The chance to dodge can be even greater if coupled with monsters that have abilities such as SLOW or SWIFT / are in the WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU Ruleset / Receive Additional STATS from MARTYR monsters. | |
| Spirit Druid Grog level 3 already has the SLOW ability. If there is a MARTYR monster adjacent to a monster that has abilities such as DODGE, FLYING, or PHASE ability, then the monster with that ability can get a distance difference of 3 points and the chance to dodge the monster's attack is greater. |
They both belong to reward cards from UNTAMED edition. They are cards that I often use in my "dodge the opponent's monster attack" strategy. In CHAOS LEGION Edition (and its derivatives), I haven't found a replacement for them.
Hopefully in the upcoming Edition (REBELLION), there will be cards like them or at least cards that match my "dodge the opponent's monster attack" strategy
PACK PRICE AND TIME OF SALE
Each Rebellion booster pack will have a base price of 5000 Credits or 5000 DEC, and purchasers may spend VOUCHER tokens in order to receive a discount on the base price. Each VOUCHER token used will reduce the price by 200 Credits / DEC and the maximum discount available using VOUCHER tokens will be 20%. This means that with the maximum available VOUCHER discount, each pack will cost 4000 Credits or DEC plus 5 VOUCHER tokens.
Considering the price of DEC and VOUCHER tokens on various external markets at the time of writing, the total USD cost for a Rebellion booster pack, not including bulk bonuses described below, will be roughly $3.10.
According to the official announcement, in order to buy 1 REBELLION Pack, you need 4000 Credits ($4) or 4000 DECs and 5 Vouchers. The price to buy 4000 DEC and 5 Vouchers when the new official announcement was released was around $3.10. However, the price will continue to change and you can see the price updates at https://splintercards.com/
The site also says that there will be a Pre-sale for the REBELLION Pack which will begin October 18 at 18:00 UTC (or a few hours from now, when this post was made). The general sale will only open when REBELLION is officially released (DECEMBER 5).
If you're asking me if I'm going to participate in the Pre-sale, then my answer is No.
Why?
Because I don't know what cards are in the REBELLION Edition, what abilities they have, and whether can they fit into the strategy that I often use. (Or do I have to change my strategy in the MODERN League later.)
There were actually 2 cards from REBELLION shown in the official announcement. The card is a "gift" for anyone who buys a REBELLION Pack (in a certain amount) during the Pre-Sale.
Of the 2 cards, for now, I am more interested in Grimbardun Smith. Although he doesn't have ATTACK POWER, his abilities at the Max level can illustrate if he is suitable to be used as a TANKER (in the first position). He has VOID and SHIELD that can reduce the impact of all kinds of monsters' attacks, IMMUNITY that prevents him from all kinds of de-buffs, and Repair that can repair his lost ARMOR. Grimbardun Smith only needs support from monsters with TANK HEAL ability and/or REPAIR ability if he wants to survive longer in the battle arena. If you want to attack, you only need to place a monster with WEAPON TRAINING ability behind Grimbardun Smith.
As for Mantaroth, he is only suitable for large Manacap battles and can only be placed at the first position (unless there is a specific ruleset). Mantaroth also has a new ability called ARMORED STRIKE.
What is ARMORED STRIKE?
NEW ABILITIES ON REBELLION EDITION
In addition to ARMORED STRIKE, there are some new abilities that will appear on some cards from REBELLION Edition. Those abilities include:
Armored Strike - Any unit with this ability gains an ADDITIONAL Melee attack using its Armor stat. This allows characters to improvise with deadly force, using their gauntlets, shields, helmets, or perhaps physical attributes (spikes, hard shells, etc) as weapons!
If based on the explanation above, then Mantaroth will have a BASE ATTACK POWER of 7 points (3 + 4 from his ARMOR stat) at his maximum level and will decrease if his ARMOR takes damage. Fortunately, he is equipped with the REPAIR ability so that he can keep his TOTAL BASE ATTACK POWER from decreasing (at least staying at 5 points).
Corrosive Ward - When hit with a Melee attack, a unit with this ability does 2 damage to the attacker's Armor AND reduces the max Armor of the attacker by 2. This is the nemesis to the Repair ability. You can't Repair something that's been melted into acidic goo! Note that this only affects units with Armor.
There is a slightly ineffective explanation in my opinion regarding CORROSIVE WARD. the explanation in the section When hit with a Melee attack... and Note that this only affects units with Armor. Why not just explain it like this when hit by an attack from a Melee unit that has ARMOR
Apart from that, if you notice, CORROSIVE WARD has similar effects to CRIPPLE ability.
What distinguishes them both is that in CRIPPLE, the owner of the ability must successfully attack the target (and reduce Max Health by 1 point). Whereas in CORROSIVE WARD, the owner of the ability must be hit by the target after that the owner of the ability will deal 2 damage along with a reduction in Max ARMOR by 2 points.
Flank - If the unit with this ability is in the first position, then the unit in the second position gains Reach ability. Prepare to leverage positioning and the element of surprise. Now your first two units can work together to bring down the enemy tank!
This ability is quite useful to help Melee monsters that don't have abilities like SNEAK, REACH, or OPPORTUNITY. FLANK is perfect when combined with Melee monsters (or Dual-Attack Type monsters that have Melee attack type) that have deadly attacks or abilities but are weak in terms of defense.
Lookout - A unit with this ability results in adjacent allies taking one less damage from attackers with Sneak, Snipe, and Opportunity. Give your team a heads-up when stalkers approach from the shadows. It's always a good idea to have a Lookout!
I don't have a clear depiction of this ability. My opinion about Lookout is nothing but that this ability will be useful in the low Manacap, LITTLE LEAGUE Ruleset, or if it is in the BRONZE League (Where the ATTACK POWER of most monsters is not too big).
Those are the kinds of things I discussed in this Social Media Challenge. Thank you for reading to the end and see you in other discussions in next week's Social Media Challenge.
