In most countries in Africa there is always this gap between the current ability of of a fresh graduates and the skills required for effectiveness in the workplace. This inadequacy has been described as skills gap. And this is why there must be a programme designed to develop and provide skills for fresh graduates and unemployed youths for the purpose of equipping them with employability potentials and skills that would make them more qualified in any place of work as pertaining to their professions.
This proramme must be designed to capture all the key skills required for excellent performance in today’s corporate world that depends so much on Innovation and Revolutionary Technologies. It should also pay close attention to the personal attributes attendees must inculcate and display in order to blossom and stay relevant.
The three key things to achieve for the programme are:
Educate by providing requisite knowledge and skills they require to be attractive and qualified to employers. Leadership Management and Writing Skills are examples.
Enlighten participants about requirements and expectations in today’s workplace such as information about roles and industry.
Empower by creating awareness of current trends in the world of business and today’s corporate work place and provide opportunities and platforms for possible job placement and recruitment for participant.
Every day, hundreds of thousands of youth in West Africa enter into the labor market and with increasing instances of unemployment. This is because many of the unemployed are simply unemployable even though a chunk of these populations are recipients of tertiary education. This is also a product of the inability of the youths to create jobs when there are none.
This programme should be aimed at developing young graduates in order to be valued asset in the labor market and take ownership of organizations by doing things differently and productively.
The programme should be designed to address two areas that are essential to increase the productivity of any organization or initiate a productive process in organizations that are currently not productive. These areas are Professionalism and Digitization!
The aim is to teach each participant to be professionally astute and digitally savvy so as to ensure a perfect blend of offline and online efficiency for the purpose of promoting and enriching the organizations they work for or their own startups.
The curriculum should be designed for personal and professional growth in order to enable learners to attain full manifestation and use of their potentials through creative and articulated expression with a problem-solving mindset. Each candidate should go deep through professionalism and go wide by being digital. The curriculum should be structured into five distinctive categories with the objective of making each candidate employable and valuable. These categories below are sequential and continuous for the purpose of realizing a wholesome experience for the employee and employer.
- Research and Analysis
- Content and System Strategy
- Art of Negotiation
- Operations and Administrations
- Technology and Digitalization
More will be discussed on these five categories soon.
I hope this helps anyone . . .
