Actually they do not look like nuts but in our language, we call them "nuts".
They are rare these days and mainly eaten at the end of November and start of December. Why? Because we associate with our December 5th celebration. Saint Nicholas (no not Santa Claus).
It's easy to make yourself all you need is: flour, baking powder, 1 egg, sugar, honey (we used syrup), a bit salt and spices (cinnamon, ginger, white pepper, etc)
Out of the dough, you make small cubes the size of sugar cubes pour some oil over it and bake it in the oven for 35-40 minutes. Their looks they get of the way the dough rises and the pressure of the cubes against an on each other.
My kid made the dough yesterday and today we baked and eat them... all of them. There's no reason not to eat what you like only because it's no celebration day. It's better to celebrate when you can.
A great day to all of you.
