A small study conducted by UCLA researchers has found that turmeric can aid in improving mood and memory loss. More specifically, the researchers found that curcumin, which is the active ingredient in turmeric and what gives the spice its bright-yellow color, improved memory and mood in people with mild, age-related memory loss.
This study's results are in line with other research that has found that turmeric helps with increasing levels of a growth hormone that, when low, is responsible for increased risk of Alzheimer's disease and depression.
Curcumin is a powerful antioxidant and like most antioxidant it's most effective in it's natural form. So that means it loses a lot of it's antioxidant properties when you dry it out, expose it to air and heat. If you want to get the most bang for you buck then you'd want to buy fresh Turmeric root and cook it up yourself or find a supplement maker that put in an oil form so it can't react with the air.
Boosting memory and mood is no surprise either. Anyone is going to feel better when you put a powerful detoxifier in the body with all the toxic chemicals in our food and water that messes with our hormones.
