🍕 ¿Qué es el Bitcoin Pizza Day?

Cada 22 de mayo desde el 2010 se celebra en todo el mundo el Bitcoin Pizza Day, un día muy especial que en mi opinión es el inicio de todo este ecosistema web3.

Resulta que ese día, una persona que conocía sobre bitcoin y tenía sus reservas decidió realizar una compra con esta cripto, así que escribió en un sitio web si alguien le vendía pizza por 10.000 btc. Otra persona de una pizzería aceptó esto y le enviaron dos pizzas.

Sin saberlo esto marcó un gran hito en la historia ya que fue la primera compra de un producto real con bitcoin, a partir de ahí se fueron abriendo más posibilidades para todo este mundo.

Quizá no en ese mismo momento, pero se vio la importancia y la utilidad que le podías dar a este tipo de monedas, pero aun así las personas seguían pensando que era algo irreal, una estafa más.

Fue con el paso del tiempo y todo lo que ocurrió después que se vio a bitcoin como algo importante, como lo llaman el “oro digital” que te ayuda a guardar valor para un futuro, funcionando similar a lo que sería el oro, su cantidad es limitada y por lo tanto su valor es mayor.

Les cuento todo esto para que tengan una idea de lo importante de ese día, por eso, desde entonces es que en todo el mundo se celebra ese día, pero también creo que sirvió para que más personas conozcan sobre el ecosistema en general.

🎉 Cómo vivimos el evento en Bolivia

Cada país vive esta fiesta a su manera, pero con el toque único de compartir una pizza con la comunidad, aprender sobre web3 y cripto, pasar un buen rato y disfrutar.

En mi caso yo la pasé con la comunidad boliviana, este año fue en un lugar grande donde asistieron alrededor de 80 personas, o quizá más. Todo comenzó desde las 7pm recibiendo a todos los asistentes con una dinámica de bienvenida, tenían que tirar un dado grande donde les tocaba un reto por realizar, como bailar, caminar en cámara lenta o hacer algo divertido.

Como todos los años, estuve apoyando en la organización de este bonito evento con varias comunidades que se unieron para celebrar este día. Luego comenzaron las dinámicas para que los participantes puedan ganar merch como gorras, poleras, pines y stickers.

🎲 Juegos y dinámicas

Uno de los juegos fue responder preguntas acerca de bitcoin, como quién fue el creador, qué era la prueba de trabajo, entre otras. Algunos fueron muy rápidos en responder, otros recién estaban aprendiendo sobre el ecosistema.

Y llegó la primera tanda de pizzas, cada participante recibió su porción y su vaso de jugo, parecía que la fila nunca terminaba, llegaban más y más personas. Algo que siempre me gusta de este tipo de eventos es que puedes encontrar a personas de toda edad, área, experiencia y demás, pero lo que nos une es la educación y web3.

Luego pasamos a otro juego que era un bingo web3, cada asistente tenía una tarjeta para poder marcar el bingo y estuvo muy movido ya que ni bien gritaban las palabras ya había un nuevo ganador, lo bueno es que había premio para todos jeje.

Otra dinámica fue postear una foto en redes y etiquetar a los organizadores, aquellos que se sacaban fotos grupales tenían la oportunidad de ganar una caja de pizza completa para toda su mesa. Aquí sí hubo que sortearlo porque no había para todos, creo que todo estuvo muy parejo porque todos se fueron muy felices con algún premio.

🌎 Una celebración mundial

La noche estuvo muy entretenida y todos se divirtieron mucho, también se notó que varias personas habían aprendido mucho sobre el por qué se festeja este día, por qué es importante conocer sobre bitcoin y lo que implica formar parte de web3.

También generó varias amistades y contactos para posibles proyectos o colaboraciones, esto es lo que más me gusta, tanto la experiencia como lo que puedes lograr asistiendo a los eventos y aprendiendo nuevas cosas.

Algo así se debió vivir en otras partes del mundo, es muy emocionante pensar que ese día todos estábamos reunidos por un mismo objetivo, esta gran celebración del Global Pizza Party.

🍕 What Is Bitcoin Pizza Day?

Every May 22 since 2010, Bitcoin Pizza Day has been celebrated around the world—a very special day that, in my opinion, marks the beginning of this entire Web3 ecosystem.

It turns out that on that day, a person who knew about Bitcoin and had some reserves decided to make a purchase with this cryptocurrency, so he posted on a website asking if anyone would sell him pizza for 10,000 BTC. Someone from a pizzeria accepted the offer and sent him two pizzas.

Unbeknownst to them, this marked a major milestone in history, as it was the first purchase of a real product with Bitcoin; from there, more possibilities began to open up for this entire world.

Perhaps not at that very moment, but the importance and utility of this type of currency became apparent, yet people still thought it was something unreal, just another scam.

It was only with the passage of time and everything that happened afterward that Bitcoin came to be seen as something important—what they call “digital gold”—which helps you store value for the future, functioning similarly to gold: its supply is limited, and therefore its value is higher.

I’m telling you all this so you can get an idea of how important that day was; that’s why, ever since then, it’s been celebrated all over the world. But I also think it helped more people learn about the ecosystem in general.

🎉 How We Celebrated the Event in Bolivia

Every country celebrates this event in its own way, but with the unique touch of sharing pizza with the community, learning about Web3 and crypto, having a good time, and enjoying ourselves.

In my case, I spent it with the Bolivian community; this year it was held in a large venue attended by around 80 people, or perhaps more. It all started at 7 p.m. by welcoming all attendees with a welcome activity: they had to roll a large die to see what challenge they’d have to perform, such as dancing, walking in slow motion, or doing something fun.

Like every year, I helped organize this wonderful event with several communities that came together to celebrate this day. Then the activities began so participants could win merchandise like hats, T-shirts, pins, and stickers.

🎲 Games and Activities

One of the games was answering questions about Bitcoin, such as who created it and what proof-of-work is, among others. Some were very quick to answer, while others were just starting to learn about the ecosystem.

And then the first batch of pizzas arrived; each participant received their slice and a glass of juice. It seemed like the line would never end—more and more people kept arriving. Something I always love about these kinds of events is that you can meet people of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of experience, but what unites us is education and Web3.

Then we moved on to another game, which was a Web3 bingo. Each attendee had a card to mark off the bingo numbers, and it was really fast-paced—as soon as the words were called out, there was already a new winner. The best part was that there was a prize for everyone, haha.

Another activity was posting a photo on social media and tagging the organizers; those who took group photos had the chance to win a whole pizza box for their entire table. We had to raffle that one off because there wasn’t enough for everyone, but I think it all worked out pretty evenly since everyone left happy with some kind of prize.

🌎 A global celebration

The night was very entertaining and everyone had a great time. It was also clear that many people had learned a lot about why this day is celebrated, why it’s important to know about Bitcoin, and what it means to be part of Web3.

It also led to several new friendships and connections for potential projects or collaborations—this is what I like best, both the experience itself and what you can achieve by attending events and learning new things.

Something similar must have happened in other parts of the world; it’s very exciting to think that on that day we were all gathered together for the same goal: this great celebration of the Global Pizza Party.
