Hubby and I had a trip to Phuket from Malaysia by aeroplane. A heck of alot quicker than sailing there, that is for sure. The reason for the trip was to celebrate my brother's birthday. Thailand has been his home for over 20 years now and more recently, Phuket. Any excuse for a visit works for me 😁.
My Bro said he'd take us out for breakfast to a farm. A hobby farm. In Phuket, of all places. Phuket is known for many things; beaches, bars, partying, luxury resorts, but farms? I quizzed him on the type of farm but he told me to wait and see. Okay. Sounded pretty cool to me.
The interior of Phuket has alot of jungle, hills and valleys and this was where we headed. The scenery was beautiful on the way to the farm but it got so much better when we got there. Little Bukit Farm. Offering brunches by bookings only. Limited numbers for an amazing and quite special experience.
We were met by the beautiful and vivacious French owner, Melinda, and straight away felt welcomed to the little piece of paradise she has created. I love that her signature outfit is a white lace dress paired with a pair of gumboots.
We were served homemade bubbly kombucha in flute glasses while we admired the views of the farm and the surrounding hills. Then it was off to visit her goats, all hand picked and raised by Melinda. These very affectionate goats just loved a pat and, of course, some handfeeding of one of their favourite treats.
a bit of one-on-one goat time for Hubby
Our coffees were waiting for us when we returned to the dining area, as was our first course, with several courses to follow. Each course was presented to us by the chef with an explanation of the delicate treats before us. All foods were grown or raised on the farm, everything was organic, and were a visual treat as well as a taste sensation. Some looked so exquisite, a work of art, it was an effort to stop admiring and start consuming.
1st course
Smoked duck with poached duck egg
Salad fresh from the garden with passionfruit dressing
5th course cheese & dried fruit platter
Delectable desserts
In-between courses we were treated to a closer look at the working farm. Melinda milks her own goats to make her own cheese, yoghurt and keffir. In fact, 5th course of brunch was a cheese board showcasing each of the cheeses she makes, along with home grown and dried fruits and homemade banana bread warm from the oven.
Melinda gathered her herd of goats and, with crook in hand, she shepherded her goats and us for a walk to the horse stables. It was amusing to see the goats jockeying for the position to walk by her side.
The horses were yet another treat. Stunning spanish horses, can't remember the breed, poked their heads out of their stables for a hello nose rub and neck scratch. One beautiful mare reciprocates when you give her a good scratch. She gives you a massage with her lips. Hilarious! These thoroughbreds have been bought for dressage competitions. A dressage arena is in the process of being built to add another aspect to this lovely little farm.
Let's not forget the big, plump chickens and the most resplendent roosters, strutting around as they watched over their hens. Or little bantam chickens with their soft fluffy feathered bodies and feet, just inviting one to pick them up for a cuddle. Something they actually quite enjoy. All chickens whether big or small were plump, glossy and happy chickens that had the run of the gardens every day.
Our 6th and final course of our brunch was exquisite miniature desserts, served up with a little shovel to dig those sweet delights out of the glasses.
Wow, what a fabulous 3 & 1/2 hour brunch and farm visit. With beautiful views, delicious foods, a delightful host and a private tour of this little haven in Phuket, we went away sated and most entertained.
Until next time, Watusi Woman - Little Bukit brunched, out.
