Alais Clay and TOTEM () have teamed up to make what may be Alais' most well produced album Elevated Frequencies and the CD release party at Cervante's Other Side was a night to remember!
The lineup was packed with community favorites like Mike Wird, Zoe Clare StarWater aka Fierce La Fey, The Freedom Movement with DJ Collingwood, Linguistory, Sister Sunday, and MC AD (), Tr9nsfer, TOTEM, and The Dirty Gemstones.
@JohnnyHurley was able to snap a few phone pics for this breif article. He also got some interviews in the green room which we will be posting very soon so keep an eye on our feed! If you were in attendance give us a shout in the comments. Enjoy!
Mike Wird... We can't say enough good things about this talented and inspiring man. We have been blessed with his frienship and contribution to our community for many years. His recent guest appearance at the We Are Change Open Mic was a delight and he never disappoints on stage. This show was no exception with his DJ and MC skills and guest spotting throughout the night! We love you so much Mike! Stay tuned for his interview...
We were a bit late to the show and didn't catch Tr9nsfer or Fierce La Fey with her magical musical poetry but her green room interview is coming soon!
The Freedom Movement is an ever evolving project started and led by MC AD () (photo right). Another genuine character we have known and been inspired by for years his deeply conscious lyricism and expert beat production shines through as a superior local talent. Joined this night by two outstanding members of another of MC AD's projects The Wandering Monks were Scott aka Linguistory (photo left) and Ben aka DJ Collingwood. So great to hear some of TWM's tracks on stage again!
Certainly not the best shot of Sister Sunday but she has been harmonizing with The Freedom Movement for a long time as well and we're always happy to see her smiling face and rock to her sweet voice!
Of course, the one, the only, Alais Clay! She is without a doubt the strongest artist we know. Her dedication, her message, her intensity, her realness, are unmatched. She is known throughout the nation as a leading truth hip hop legend and with her performance at Anarchapulco opening up for The Wu Tang Clan she is known internationally.
Her collaberation with TOTEM (photo right) on her new album Elevated Frequencies(or should we just call it Freqs? Time will tell!) is a groundbreaking connection of local artists and the result is nothing short of amazing. TOTEM produced a number of tracks from the ground up but also lent his mixing expertise for the entire album. And we gotta tell you folks, it sounds great.
It wouldn't be a hippied-out truth love and freedom show without some live performance art! We didn't catch this guys name but he was fun to watch! Shout out to all the ladies who came out and danced with light as well... And a shout out to Guy Fawkes... ;)
Collabs galore! Mike Wird, MC AD, and Steve Grant all do tracks with Alais on this new one.
Shout out to Ahva Lenay!
Can you feel that!?
Seriously folks it was not to be missed. TOTEM and The Dirty Gemstones closed out the night but Johnny is just one man and got caught up doing the interviews. Thanks for reading through and keep an eye out for interviews with TOTEM (), Fierce La Fey, Mike Wird, MC AD (
) of the Freedom Movement, and Alais Clay coming really soon! Peace
