March 8th is officially recognised as international women's day, so I'd love to share with you some of my favourite UK coinage that have designs dedicated to some amazing women.
The Rosalind Franklin set of coins was released last year (2020) to celebrate what would have been her 100th birthday. Unfortunately, she passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 37..... She leaves a legacy of helping to discover the make up of the human DNA. Her "photograph 51" was key to discovering the structure of the double helix.
I actually managed to get my hands in one of the few silver coins to be released by the ROYAL MINT, as part of there UK series in Science. You can take a look at a more in depth of that coin HERE.
Beatrix Potter's most famous creations - "the tales of Peter Rabbit" was first released by the RM back in 2016. I've been a sucker for over priced silver coins for many a year, and you can take a read about her most famous creation PETER RABBIT in an old post of mine.
Marry Annin is an almost forgot figure in the world of paleontology, yet she was a maverick and used cutting edge technology all those years back to discovery new and unknown dinosaur fossils.
She was solely responsible for discovering and uncovering the Temnodontosaurus fossil, and after overcoming hardship in her younger years, she became the greatest dinosaur fossil hunter of the Victorian era.
