How are we all doing, and how was your weekend? Mine was a little bit of everything, a bit of stress, and a sprinkle of excitement because it’s my birthday week! I’m staying positive and grateful for life.
So today, I want to share how my family has already started prepping for Christmas. Too early? Maybe. But at this point, I think it’s becoming a family tradition.

For the past three years, my mom has cultivated the habit of raising chicks a few months before Christmas. It’s always fun watching those tiny little things grow into big chickens. The only sad part for me is that I don’t eat meat, and honestly, I see them as babies. So, during Christmas, I can’t even stand to witness their slaughter.
This year’s batch arrived a bit late since their pen isn’t prepped yet, but we still went ahead and got twelve of them last Friday. To my surprise, the prices had almost doubled compared to last year.
Last year, a day-old chick cost ₦1,200, but now it’s ₦2,200. I guess it’s the festive season effect,; prices always go up as Christmas draws closer.

Anyway, our chicks are currently enjoying the warmth of the house in their temporary “gallon home,” while we prepare and disinfect their pen. They’re about four days old now, so cute and still shaped like eggs.
They’re so full of life and energy. Honestly, they eat almost all the time, and just like babies, their only routine is to eat and poop, and they do that part a lot. It's annoying how tiny they are, and yet they mess everywhere. Lol.

Thankfully, my mom has all the patience in the world to care for them. She used to run a poultry business where she raised chickens and sold eggs, so she knows exactly how to handle them. It’s so heartwarming to watch her feed and nurture them like the babies they are, until they’re ready for the pot.
I still don’t know how she manages to eat them after watching them grow through all that. Maybe that’s why I try not to get too attached. I enjoy admiring their cuteness from a distance.

So, have you ever raised chicks? What was your experience, if you have one? Please share in the comments.
Thank you for stopping by. Wishing you all a beautiful and blessed week ahead. And wish me happyy birthday in advance,it's my birthday tomorrow. 🎂🎉🎁🎉🎂
