I understand how you feel. You work your butt off on a post and it gets nothing. But a post you made another day or maybe even in the same day, that you put the same or maybe even less effort into, did much better. It is normal to think you did something wrong or your post wasn't good. But that is not always the case. You should always try to improve your work, whether it is writing or making videos, but how well a post does is not a direct indication of how well your post was. Sometimes your post doesn't get seen. Sometimes it gets buried under other posts. Maybe it does get seen and the users who would upvote it have no more voting power left. Timing is a big factor. But knowing when is the right time is impossible. Everyone on this site is their own person with their own lives and as it has members around the world, there are different time zones. This happens on every site. So where does that leave you?
I know this is going to sound a little curt, but one piece of advice that I can give you is suck it up and keep working. That might sound a little cold but if you want to be a successful writer, photographer, filmmaker, you are going to have to learn to slog through a lot of downs. You can sit there thinking why didn't my post do well or start working on the next one. If you spam you will only piss people off and when your post does get seen, you will be happy it was a post of quality. Now if you are working for weeks and seeing no progress then it might be time to reassess things. If there are any users who are seeing no progress, please let me know in the comments. But if you are having highs and lows, then ride it out, you are not the only ones.
I have had some really successful posts on here but I have had posts that fell flat. It could be the timing or maybe the post but either way, it doesn't matter, I keep on working. Here is a screen shot of what I mean on my page:
I had three in a row that were lower and then two that kicked ass. How did a post about the Konami code working on the Canadian government site not trend :p. And that post about the HF was a piece like my others that did well but it didn't take off. It happens. I'm not complaining at all, just letting people know ups and downs are normal. I felt that my last post about people getting paid for their content would do well and it isn't. And we will see how this one does. But I do not take it personally. Well I try not to, we are all human and you do question when you are not doing well, even just a second thought or two, but I will keep pushing forward.
Downs happen to us all.
Let me know your success stories after a slow period.
