Artie, the doorman was the most comforting and optimistic person who had the ability to brighten everyone's day. "When one door closes, another one opens," he told everyone as he opened the door for them. It was impossible not to smile.
He was dependable too and never missed a day at his post. He made it known that he wouldn't be at the door on Friday due to out-patient surgery but would return without fail on Monday morning.
Artie was not at his post on Monday. There was a terrible mishap during surgery; an artery was accidentally cut, and he died on the operating table. The door closed on Artie's life here on earth, but the door in heaven was gleaming and held wide open for Artie.
