Hello Hive! So finnaly decided to open up a bottle of white wine that I picked up from my sisters work. You can view that post here. Hard to believe I managed to keep a bottle of wine for over 5 months! lol Kidding, that is actually getting easier for me, since now I put the bottles in my storage, far away from my reach. Hoping to forget entirely about them, and then enjoying them years down the road. Those are the bottles I do not mind spending extra $$ on.
This Chardonnay is local to me, and grown in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. One that I have talked about a few times. Burgundy Varietals do well here, as do other cool climate grapes, such as Riesling. So how was this Chardonnay? For me, it had to much oak! The is one problem with California Chardonnays. The winemaker over oaks their wines. Not only does this make a wine taste bad, it makes it more expensive. With wine it is all about balance, and have everything come together in harmony. This is a wine that I know would of been killer if they did not use so much new oak in the wine making process. But it is what it is, I am sure so many love there Chardonnay to have that oakyness to it. But since I have been drinking on more Chablis lately, which is Chardonnay from the Chablis Region in France, I probably am a bit spoiled. But this is where people need to look to if they are to make wine from this grape. Over there they hardly use any new oak on their wines. They let the grape speak for itself, CHEERS!
