It's my first time posting in this community and it has to be about a natural disaster. I must start by saying, "if you know anyone who lives in Turkey or Syria, you really should check up on them"
About 2600 people lost their lives today in Turkey and Syria due to an earthquake. I'm certain that most of the citizens weren't expecting an earthquake and if they were, it wouldn't be too soon.
The internet is full of pictures from the scenes. The image that caught me the most was that of a father holding on tight to his son as the building went down.
You can find more evidence here. Twitter sure has a lot to say about what's going on.
It's a good thing that everyone is working towards salvaging the issue but it would take time to build back all those buildings.
A striking point remains that many people are left without a roof over their heads and as such they all have to get where to stay else a lot of people could die because of exposure to harsh weather conditions.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all those who lost a loved one and all those who lost their houses. I can't imagine how it feels like to be in their shoes. I know for a fact that it isn't a nice feeling.
Here is a link to a YouTube video that states in details what really occurred
Research shows that Turkey is an active earthquake site and some earthquakes have been recorded in the previous years. The first earthquake recorded today had a magnitude of 7.5 and the second one that occured about an hour later had a magnitude of 7.8, almost 8.0, quite tragic.
People are digging up and trying to find those who are still alive under the rubble and health workers are trying to save as many lives as possible and I totally hope they succeed.
