Yes, I have been absent of late. Vacations can do that. I did take my laptop with me with a vague idea to "try to keep up" but... eh. It's vacation. I've declared social media bankruptcy, cleaned out my plate, and will start fresh again tomorrow.
But not today.
Today I'm easing myself back into normal life again, including what will undoubtedly be a text-thin but picture-heavy post of Stuff I Did last week.
First, this was the lake we stayed at. Innit pretty? It's in the Smokey Mountains and so rained at least once daily. It was expected. It was appreciated.
This was, sadly, the only waterfall I had the time to visit. Soco Falls. I wanted to see more, but time was not my friend and I refused to rush myself through the week. The order of the week was low stress and easy days, and if that meant that some activities had to be put aside, so be it.
Mini golf happened, because I don't see why it wouldn't.
There is a place just outside the Cherokee Indian Reserve called Mountain Farm Museum. It is about what one might expect from a museum with that name.
We also went white water rafting. We went down the Tuckasegee River, which is a very gentle river and great for young children; in my instance, it was great for a child with Asperger's who would be frightened stiff of the more adventurer-oriented Nantahala River. As it was he was pretty concerned beforehand and I had to expend all my accumulated capital of goodwill with him to convince him to go.
By the time we reached the photographer who was photographing everyone, he was obviously still in a completely miserable mood, as one can tell.
(He wasn't)
This is a pretty different type of action shot from the one I had with my daughter a few years back down the Nantahala:
(buy me a beer sometime and I'll give you the rundown on that entire rafting expedition)
We engaged in other activities that were not as photographic friendly, of course, such as visiting the Western North Carolina Nature Center (the zoo) and the Asheville Pinball Museum (which was epic); or going to trivia night at a local brewery, or visiting (and escaping from!) an escape room (with one second left! Booya!)
Nor did I take pictures of the torrential thunderstorm we got caught in on the highway on the trip home which caused us to call it a night and find a hotel.
But there were bellydancers!
And a flower, of course, for .
