Are you seeing rain there?
Neither did I.
Having left a raincoat at the hostel, I set out to the beach for a sunny photography walk.
It was happening recently, on November 12, 2023 with a Nikkor 70-300mm on Nikon D750. Yes, a telephoto lens walk. I prefer this when I am at a beach.

Waves, yes, but there are almost always waves in Da Nang 🇻🇳 in autumn. Once in 2019, strong wind was blowing along Da Nang beach, lifting millions of grains of sand into the air, but it didn't stop 2-meter-tall waves coming from the sea, perpendicular to the wind...
2:33 PM 🌞
Locals in a basket boat, resembling time travelers from the past, are leaving the sea. Coincidence or they knew?
2:36 PM 🌞
Locals, getting fishing gear from the sea. Look at the horizon:
The blue haze turned to be grayish clouds which, however, didn't look too threatening.
2:50 🌞
Sunbathing, no signs of rain.
2:53 🌞
Happy childhood.
2:59 PM 🌞
Fishermen folding nets.
3:03 PM 🌞
Love this feeling of vast space and wind at Da Nang Beach. One of the best places to stroll or jog especially during rainy season.
3:24 PM 🌞
Silly local fisherman took that purple raincoat with him even though it definitely wouldn't rain! 😁
3:25 PM 🌞
Sneaking as many portraits as possible. Why not?
3:31 PM 🌤
That's when I realized that rain was coming - look at the horizon, it got a black shade.
3:32 PM 🌤
Love this image but, from the point of meteorology, it is a fake - I slightly added blue in highlights and a droplet of yellow in shadows during post-processing.
3:43 PM 🌤
Cleaning at My Khe and My An beaches never stops.
It was still sunny but everybody was awaiting for fun of tropical rain.
3:46 PM 🌤
There was the last blink of the sun, lasted for a couple of minutes, when the sunny sea turned black-green and the sky showed the full power of the coming storm.
3:50 PM 🌤
Before the sky turned dark, a powerful gust of wind lifted a restaurant roof made of some kind of fabric and threw it onto the street behind (hope nobody was injured there).
I would lie if I said that tourists were frightened by this. Some people were leaving after realizing that they had no chance to get more suntan while some other were excited and waiting for fun.
3:51 🌧
Several surfers rushed from the beach into the sea hoping to catch a good wave there during the upcoming downpour.
3:52 PM 🌧
Agitated worshipers of waves, craving for wind.
3:53 PM 🌧
That fog on the right is actually heavy rain approaching the beach.
3:56 PM 🌧
That purple raincoat from the photos above... The fisherman was right to have it with him 😄
The rain began to drench my camera, and I was in a hurry to take images before it was too much water.
3:59 PM 🌧
Raindrops covered the lens, and my T-shirt was soaked so I had nothing for wiping my camera. I was ready to run in search of a shelter.
4:00 🌧
A farewell shot, and, then, I rushed towards umbrellas and sheds by the seaside boulevard.
It was clear that the rain would come for a long while...
But I was again cheated by the weather, look at this, just half an hour later:
4:29 PM 🌤
The Walk Lasted Only 2.5 Hours but How Diverse the Scenes! Love Rain Season in Da Nang! 😎
More images and stories from Southeast Asia are ahead! Check out the previous ones on my personal Pinmapple map, inlcuding 13 posts from Da Nang City.
I took the images with Nikkor 70-300mm on Nikon D750 in November 12, 2023 in Da Nang, Vietnam.
