Hello Steemit community...
It's a pleasure to be part of this seemingly ground-breaking platform, which I heard about through an acquaintance over the holidays. With the recent surge in Bitcoin, I've been cruelly reminded of the fact that I used to hold over 11,000 bitcoins....most of you probably find this of interest, for my old wallet would have made me worth close to $200,000,000 a few weeks ago.
Now, it's a bit hard for me to process the weight of that, and in fact since 2012 I basically forced myself to forget about the loss. However, this year has been a thoroughly painful reminder of what I could have had. What a strange feeling. But I guess that's human nature...the second-guessing...being geared for regret--yet, certainly I'm not wrong to regret essentially losing $200,000,000? I guess I'm being thoroughly “all to human.” Perhaps it's time to read some Nietzsche.
No matter, I figured some of you might like to hear my story, as it's a pretty unique one and one that I've not told very many people at all, for in many ways it dealt with some shady and “unique” circumstances that still put me on edge. I've learned in my life, and in the position that I'm now in, that power not only can corrupt but power also gets whatever power wants. When you're thrown in the face of very powerful and globally affluent people, you are truly sitting down to eat dinner with the Devil; what I've learned is its best to remain as demure, complacent and unrecognizable as possible in these circumstances. There is no-protection for you if you get on such people's bad side, and most of the time, regardless if these folks are apparently good or ill-willed they are all controlled by their own desires, and they, unlike the rest of us, can enact ALL their desires....they can achieve most anything they want. The issue is: you are at the mercy of their desires, and this can be a wonderful or horrific place to be. All in all, from what I've seen it's better not to be at the table. Let's just say, I was sitting at the table when I ended up being paid 11,000+ BTC for a little service I provided back in 2011.
It's not exactly smart for me to post this story, but I've been holding onto it for so long, and with everything that's going on with Bitcoin recently, I figured this might be a cathartic way for me to deal with things. Likewise, I recently read about a British guy who is trying to dig up a lost harddrive of some 7500 coins from a dump and so figured my story could add to the mix and likewise be of interest to cyptocurrency folks.
So when I have time I'm planning on telling my story on here. Then perhaps I'll also write some reviews/editorials about products I'd have bought or ways I would have spent my $200,000,000.
Here's to putting 2017 in the ground!
