A fundamental attribute of the Christian faith which we are to have and depict is the act of humility. But first off, let us clear off and understand what humility is.
Some people have the general misconception that being humble means thinking less of yourself. This is a faulty form of understanding what it means. To be humble does not mean I am less of a human being than another person.
What then is Humility?
Humility simply can be surmised to be the absence of pride and arrogance in a person. Now this does not demean the person in any way, it does not make the person less than what he is, it does not mean that he is thinking less of himself but rather that he thinks of himself less.
Now I know that sounded a bit confusing but let me explain further, it simply means that though I recognize the fact that I have my plans in life, I would rather choose to listen to God’s plan for my life. If we take our time to analyze each character in the bible, there seems to be one thing that they all developed and that is humility. It can be seen from the story of Abraham down to Moses, who was known as the meekest person of his time, to David, who despite his atrocities went to God with a contrite and repentant heart, down to our Lord Jesus Christ, who we can clearly see how he placed the will of his Father over his.
All throughout the bible, various men of God were noted for this trait, how then can we be humble in our lives?
We can develop this trait by prioritizing the will of God in our lives over ours, we can show it in the little things around us. The book of proverbs is full of advices, telling young people to be humble and telling them of the repercussions of being self-centered rather than submissive to the will of God.
Proverbs 3:34
He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed.Proverbs 11:2
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.Proverbs 18:12
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.Proverbs 22:4
Humility is the fear of the LORD; its wages are riches and honor and life.Proverbs 27:2
Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.
A list of verses where Humility is emphasized. The emphasis placed on humility cannot be overemphasized. And we would do well, as members of the #steemchurch to adhere to the advice given to us.
So in conclusion we all should strive to be humble in every area of our lives and the Lord will definitely lift us up.
