Greetings to the great knight of the #steemchurch and my fellow parishioners, for today’s post on #steemchurch, I’d like to talk about the seven deadly sins also known as the cardinal sins. But I will be taking them one after the other so as to talk about them properly. I will be starting with the sin of pride.
I think as humans, at some point in our lives we have depicted pride in some way. Some people’s might be more obvious than others but that does not mean that it is absent in people who do not show it easily. But basically, pride is a learnt trait. Nobody is born proud!. Which means we all learnt it at some point in our lives.
This is due to what we have been exposed to growing up, traits we have seen in our parents, siblings or peer group. But the good part about it is that since it is a learned habit, it can also be unlearnt. We can easily take a close examination of ourselves and see where we are being proud and adjust our lives accordingly. Please note that self-confidence should not be confused with pride, while an excess of it can result in being prideful, at its most basic form, it is simply appreciation of one’s self, which is essential for our self-esteem.

Pride is a terrible destroyer of man and throughout history, we can see that most wars were caused because some guy felt he had the right to attack, possess and take another person’s property or life. Now while proud will not be the word you would want to use to describe such a person, an important point to note is the fact that the sense of entitlement that such person might have had stems from the fact that he saw himself as infallible. And for someone to see himself as infallible, he must have an enormous pride in himself, he must have believed that he is above the average person. Such people have a god complex and if we are to look through history, we would see that most “conquerors” fall under this category.
So we can see so far that the major issue arising from the sin of pride is that it births other sins, all of which together leads to the downfall of a man. No wonder the book of proverbs admonishes us strongly against this sin.
(Proverbs 16:18) Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall. (Psalm 10:3-4) The wicked are proud of their evil desires; the greedy curse and reject the Lord. The wicked do not care about the Lord; in their pride they think that God doesn’t matter.
These verses goes to show the extent to which pride can blind a person, the psalmist is clearly saying that proud people are blinded by their folly, and in such they neglect and forget God. Then also the book of proverbs sums it up with the verse 18 from chapter 16.
So my dear brethren of the #steemchurch, let us be humble. Thanks for reading and wishing you the very best for the remainder of this month.
