Today i want to talk about somethings newbie or new users do that they shouldn't do when commenting on someone else post.
There are 3 things i want newbies or new users on this platform to know when commenting on other peoples posts.
Do not ask for a follow and an upvote when commenting on an authors post.
I noticed when i am going through other people post, i see new user asking for an upvote on their post and or a follow. It is wrong for you to ask for an upvote or a follow when commenting on another person's post because the steemit system does not like it. It is something they see has spamming and you can be flagged for it. I understand why new user ask for an upvote and a follow when commenting on peoples posts.
It is because the are ignorant of the rules here on steemit. Even me too, when i newly joined steemit, because i was ignorant of the rules i was always asking for an upvote and a follow when commenting on other peoples posts. During this period that i was asking for an upvote and a follow when commenting on other peoples post, i noticed my reputation was coming down and it was definitely because i was been flagged for it, probably by the author or the steemit team but i didn't know.
But it is after a while that it dawned on me that i was been flagged for asking for an upvote and or a follow when commenting on other peoples post because when is decided on my own to stop asking for an upvote and or a follow because i was been ignored by the authors i started noticing my reputation going back up. So newbies and new users on steemit do not ask for an upvote or a follow when commenting on other peoples posts, because it is frowned at by the system.
If you has a new user to steemit want people to follow you and upvote your post, follow them first and always engage in their post by commenting and upvoting them regularly and with time they will notice you and follow you. It worked for me, but it is not a garanty that if you consistently comment and upvote peoples post, that they will reciprocate but it work for me in several cases but not all cases though.
Also my advice to users on steemit is that if you are looking for an upvote and a follow, just engage with the community by making friends and you will get the upvote and follow naturally.
Secondly, Do not make irrelevant comments on other peoples posts.
I tend to see new users making comments on other peoples posts that are irrelevant to what the post is talking about. New users if you are in the habit of making irrelevant comments on peoples posts, try and stop it, because you can be flagged for it by the author. I was checking out a post and i saw that one new user was flagged and i was curious to see why the new user was flagged and i discovered that what he commented was irrelevant to what the post was taking about.
The post was talking about how somebody's mother died and the new users commented was nice post. It shows that the new user didn't read the post before commenting. So new users learn to read a post before commenting, this way you would make relevant comments. It is good to comment on a post but is not compulsory to comment on a post, but if you wish to comment make sure you read the post and give a relevant answer to the post.
Finally Do not advertise your post on other peoples post when commenting on their posts.
Again, i see a lot of new users advertising their posts in other peoples posts, this something the system does not like and you can be flagged for it by the system or the author himself and it will affect your reputation. Reputation is important because it is one of the things that will help promote your post.
The higher your reputation, the more people will want to check your post and from this you can get a lot of upvote and follows that you want. But if you allow yourself to be consistently flagged your reputation will come down and nobody will want to check your post and so you will not get a lot of upvotes and follow that you desire.
So new user to steemit, if you want to get more upvote on your post and you are advertising it and other peoples post, you will get the opposite because you will be flagged and it will affect your reputation. The only time you can bring your post to someone else post, is if you were asked to bring it by the author himself for one reason or the other.
A Little Plea to older users of steemit, Dolphins and Whales
I want to plea with older user of steemit, Dolphins and whale, that you should at least warn a new user if the user is committing any of these fault that i mentioned above before flagging anyone who does them because it is likely they are ignorant about it. Am saying this because some older users of steemit, dolphins and whales just go ahead and flag this new users when they commit the faults i mentioned above without warning them first.
