Great Impatience

A great impatience ushers me to and fro
rises before me, and sends me to sleep
with anxious care

It matches my stride, heaving and sighing
while helplessly pacing or restlessly lying
in tense anticipation

It’s mindful of me, indifferent to the moment
amorously engaged or arranging the hours
like dreadful flowers

Whether swept up in literature’s mighty wave
or wearily treading water with puny kicks
at the workplace.
