Hokahey!
So it's Christmas Eve in the US, and either you are working off a hangover, sweating your ass off and curious as to why people think Christmas involves snow , or you just want a moment away from the "festivities"...
What I am gifting you with will fix precisely NONE of those issues.. In fact, it will open great and terrifying vistas which, once glanced, can never be Unseen...
In the halcyon days of the interwebs, there were once (and I suspect, still) many email scammers, who would send emails at random to people claiming that they needed the recipients help to retrieve a vast amount of money, and the Nigerian Prince, (or Priest, or Potentate, or whatever) would split some loot with that person; if they would just be so kind as to send some money...
So began the saga of the 419 Hunters.
The part of Nigerian criminal law that deal with wire-scams is designated under the number 419, and therefore that is the term that most of the anti-scammers use to describe their work. It is almost the first E-Sport, to subtly and quite malevolently scam the scammers. The rationale of the 419 Hunters was that, all other things being equal, every moment that they could distract the wire-scammers from their intended prey (IE retirees, mostly) was a moment wellspent. This was their game.. When they received a scam email, they would respond in such a way as to get the scammer involved, and then run them through endless hoops and jokes and redirects, and basically waste their time.
You may have seen photos on the internet, way back in the day, of people balancing a fish on their head, or making a bonfire of bread, or any permutation of silliness. This was because the scammers themselves often had very little knowledge of the cultural norms of the people that they were attempting to scam. And the 419 Hunters made good use of this.
One thing that I must explain, is that, in the culture of West Africa, where most of these scammers originated from, there is a god known as Eshu. He is the consummate Trickster, much like Hanuman, Ti Malice, or Coyote. And, contrary to Western Cultures, this Trickster is held very high esteem. Simply put, in these cultures, if a person can trick another out of their wealth, then their victim should have known better. There's a fair amount of victim-blaming evident here, and while many of us might find it distasteful; remember, these people live in an entirely different reality than we do... Trickery is a pseudo-honourable profession among these folks.
That being said, 419 scamming is not what it used to be. Whereas, once upon a time, it was a matter of a computer-savvy person plying a nefarious trade on their own; nowadays, many of the people trying to perform the scams are themselves indentured servants of mobsters. These are folks, who via desperation or foolishness, have found themselves in the debt of loan-sharks, and are now pressed into service in this manner; desperately trying to work off a debt that they will never be allowed to repay... Every part of this in exploitative from top-to-bottom.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY WON'T TAKE EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY. from their victims. There are records of these folks scamming people out of the money they were saving for a child's chemo treatment. That is not Hyperbole.
With all that said, I present to you, the greatest achievement of the 419 Hunters.. the penultimate Nerd-venge..
The H.P. LOVECRAFT anti-scam:
If you've never read Lovecraft, then this will seem odd and funny and rather silly. If, on the other hand, you are a halfway decent Lovecraft scholar, you will -shit your pants- laughing at this story... It is so goddamn funny.
To be clear, I am most certainly -not- the author of this peace. But in 2008, I spent 6 days plumbing the internet to retrieve it, all so that one day it could be brought forth to light.
Steel yourself, Steemians... For you do not gaze upon just any net-flotsam.. This doth transcend both time and propriety, a monstrous and foul scheme to ridicule, confuse and ultimately terrify a hapless criminal who is in WAAAAAY over his head.
Some things were not meant to be known.. and poor David Ehizojie, who just so happened to contact the wrong person, at the wrong time... This is HIS STORY.
Good luck, Dave..
All apologies in that I was not able to properly format this document for Steemit. It's really big and most definitely not MY work, but still, I hope I have helped to explain the gravity of the situation that David is in, and what further depths of horror await him...
Merry Christmas,
Silas Danois
