Today, argh I don’t know where to start from. Im deffo aching a lot! Last week when I went for the bradgate park hike, I wore my hiking boots and because they got so muddy, I put them in a bag and left them in the garage to dry and I totally forgot about them until Friday night. So, I had to wear my standard running trainers. That was the biggest mistake:(( the unpredictable weather we have here in the UK, made things 10 times worse. It was a hierarchy of events…
First of all, the day began with panic. Our hike organiser told us to meet at Loughborough University. According to my google sat nav, I was at the right place, but I was no where near to the start point. I began to get frustrated and thought I’d just drive to Beacons Hill Country Park and do my own little walk then head back home. Just then, Angela called and said she’s coming to collect me. That was a sense of relief. Had I known what was to come:
From what I heard, I figured it would be a walk in the park…literally! I guess I was wrong and the weather really didn’t make things any easier. Because Angela came to collect me, the rest of the hikers made a start on the walk. We were slightly behind schedule and took a detour to meet up with them. So up until lunch it was me and Angela walking across fields and woods to get to the top of the second highest mountain in Leicestershire. Enroute we came across: the "pleasant" smell of horse stables, lots of dogs, and the real struggles of walking on slippy mud while trying not to get my trainers stuck in the mud. At some points I was regretting the part where I didn’t chose to go home instead, but like I said, it was all part of the experience. I must say for my second hike, I did well and I sure know what to do for the next one. You most certainly don’t know what to expect, so always need to be prepared. I had the right clothing on for the weather just not the right footwear. After having had my feet move in all directions possible due to the muddy fields and snow, going up hills was difficult but coming down was even harder as all the weight was going onto my feet. I could feel the pain slowly kicking in. We completed 11 miles in 5 hours and by the end of it, walking to the car in silence was the only thing I could do. Because each step was putting a strain on my leg. The closer I was getting to my car the harder it was becoming to lift each foot off the ground. Just the thought of driving home was painful and this time Sal wasn’t even with me so no-one to takeover the wheel. Overall it was an experience and the breath taking views most certainly made everything worth it. I got home for about 16:30 and then had to get ready for Amelia and Zayyan’s Birthday party. I knew it was going to be an eventful evening so I was preparing myself for it. Besides, my plan for Sunday was just to laze around and catch up on Lethal weapon. Besides, I am left with a swollen foot and hot water bottle so I have no other choice but to stay in.The week ahead is going to be interesting, productive and busy. I have tuns to sort out before my graduation on Thursday.
For now, I’m going to leave you to having a look at my ‘UK Trotter’ page. Have an awesome Sunday amigos
Peace out xoxo
