I'm still going through my "hiatus month" pictures and remembered I had a whole series of photographs of this one dove who showed up on a particularly cold (and wet) day with a shiny, slick layer of ice running down his/her tail. In all my dove watching I had never seen such a thing. But later that same day I went to my hairdresser who is also a bird watcher and told her about it and she said I shouldn't worry because it will just eventually crack and break off. Apparently the bird barely notices it, which makes sense, because I got the same impression watching him/her bustling around and pecking at seeds all morning. Also, if you look closely in the last 2 pictures you will see the "cracks" developing in the dove's icy armor...
Enjoy!
