Good day to my friends on Hive and especially all the fans of the 41st millennium... or just Sci-fi in general. I'm Zak Ludick and I am writing to you from Cape Town, South Africa about my hobby - the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game.
I've been highlighting the Adeptus Astartes - the Space Marines and some of the models I have for them, but today I would like to show some of my other models.
I have been collecting various forces from the Imperium of Mankind. Today I shall be showcasing a few of the models that I own from the Inquisition!
The many Ordos of the Inquisition.
In the lore, Humanity is faced with numerous perils. Sometimes this requires agents of the Imperium with some of the highest clearance to make decisions that may decide the fate of an entire world.
The Inquisition is made up of different Ordos, each specialized in a certain kind of threat to Humanity. There are also sub factions within the Ordos, where some Inquisators are willing to use the weapons of the enemy against them while others remain pure in their conduct.
There is the Ordo Malleus - Daemon Hunters who specialise in combating the threat of Chaos incursions into reality. It is also up to them to tie off loose ends after the battle against Daemons are won, since the vile corruption of Chaos may leave its stain on the world afterwards.
The Ordo Malleus also offer call in the help of a special Chapter of Space Marines known as the Grey Knights who are designed and trained specifically to combat Daemons.
There is the Ordo Xenos - Alien Hunters. These Inquisators study everything about alien races of the galaxy and how best to deal with them. Some Xenos harm the Imperium through infection and war, while other do harm to the Imperial creed by using diplomacy and manipulation. Often, Inquisators of this ilk specialize in some alien species. One Inquisator might have a deep understanding of Ork psychology and biology while another Inquisator might be a specialist in rooting out Genestealer Cults.
The Ordo Xenos often make use of a special inter-Chapter Space Marine defence organisation called the Deathwatch. They are drawn up from tithes and volunteers who go to the Deathwatch to serve a number of years fighting aliens of many kinds. Often these veteran warriors return to their Chapters, enriched by the experience of how to slay these numerous foes.
The Ordo Hereticus specialize in rooting out witches and heretics. Cults of Daemon worshippers, or untamed psykers who can fall prey to the denizens of the warp are a ever-present threat to humanity. One moment a planet that has some regular civil unrest in its low class citizenry suddenly explodes in an activity of Chaos cults and Daemon summoning.
These Inquisators often operate more on the guidelines of the Faith of the Ecclesiarchy - the Church of the God-Emperor of Mankind, for those who stray from his light often find themselves in the clutches of Chaos.
Thus, the Ordo Hereticus often make use of the Adepta Soriritas - The Sisters of Battle, an organization of battle nuns whose Faith is so pure, it manifests in battle.
All of these Inquisators, though seen as heroes, are often also seen as tyrants. A mere word: Exterminatus carries out a sentence to have an entire world purged.
If there are too many chaos cults on a planet, they may resort to Exterminatus to destroy all sects of the cult, the innocent found guilty for not stopping the rest of their population from falling the Chaos. The Inquisition would rather have on world destroyed than allow the taint of Chaos spread to other worlds.
After a battle where the army had to face the horrors of Daemons and aliens the basic minds of imperial citizens and even the military of the Astra Militarium (mortal soldiers) would be at risk of breaking under the realities of the enemies that exist. Thus, these soldiers and citizens are often purged as well. Some are mind-wiped but other times this is not practical and they put to the death.
Thus, the Inquisition represents a real Grimdark aspect of the Imperium of Mankind. The heroes that are there to save everyone from the worst horrors of the Galaxy may also put many humans to the death in the process.
Right, on that foot... let's look at the miniatures I have that are painted up that are from the Inquisition.
Inquisator Lord Torquemada Coteaz
This guy is a Daemon Hunter. I will do a Lore review of him another time. He has a Daemonhammer and a psyber eagle. With him is an Acolyte.
I did not paint these two, but they are painted well enough that I do not need to bother doing a new job on them.
The Daemonhammer. Meant for removing warpspawn from reality.
The eagle. A weapon and a symbol made manifest.
His coat. Some real swagger!
This Acolyte is basically an assistant and sometimes an inquisitor in training. Armed with a religious symbol and a plasma pistol.
Another Inquisator of mine, this one is also Ordo Malleus. I painted this one together with a cool effect on his sword.
Just like Torquemada above and the Acolyte, this model is made of pewter - metal and nice and sturdy. There are no more metal cast miniatures in the new generations.
This Inquisator holds a ball of fire in his palm and wields the Null Rod. A Ordo Hereticus Inquisator I modified myself from other Warhammer bits.
And there you have it!
The terrifying "good" guys who are likely to burn you at the stake! The Inquisition definitely represents some of the worst of the Grimdark of Warhammer 40,000.
Until next time.
