Si soy de la vieja escuela o de la romana vieja.

No se si ustedes han escuchado estas frases, yo si en reiteradas oportunidades, sobre todo en personas ya adultas, pero que no son tan viejitos, asi como yo je je je.

Llego a esto, porque dentro de las tantas fortalezas que hago, una de ellas es la reposteria o hacer tortas, que es lo que mas se escuchaba antes y lo que se veia en casas donde las hacian, y en las panaderias dicen: hacemos pasteles.

Ya hace un buen tiempo esta la tendencia de las tortas altas, cuyas torteras o moldes son asi altas, pero como soy de la vieja escuela en esto de hacer tortas, tengo muchas torteras de diferentes tamaños con la misma altura, en su mayoria son rectangulares, unas pocas redondas porque son las que usaba para las tortas especiales dijera yo: 15 años y matrimonios, que eran de pisos.

Entonces porque la tendencia es que son altas, tengo que comprar torteras nuevas, pues no creo, se pueden buscar otras alternativas y como en su mayoria, tambien las piden no tan grandes, como de 20 o 25 cms de diametro, como 30 cms de alto. Trabajo mas, porque deberia de hacer doble torta, para montar una sobre la otra, pero gasto mas gas. Y lo otro son las tematicas que se decoran diferentes a las de antes.

Por eso cuando alguien viene o me pregunta por tortas, ahi mismo le explico como las hago, le enseño las torteras, si tengo modelos de las que ya hecho, para que vean como quedan, lo que si no tengo muestra de prueba, pero quienes ya la han comido dicen que eso si son muy sabrosas, no solo las mias sino las que hacen mis hermanos, porque somos 5 y todos hacemos tortas, pero la mas tradicional o de la vieja escuela sigo siendo yo.

Otra cosa que me hace ver o sentir como de la vieja escuela, cuando era docente era los metodos de enseñanza a la antigua, que aun con tanta tecnologia y avances digitales, sigo creyendo que a la antigua es como mejor, asi aprendi yo, asi enseñe a mis alumnos, como enseñando a leer, que en un principio si fue dificil cuando era sub silabico o deletreado: m con a: ma, m con la a: ma, dice mamá, era como mas largo pero sin embargo muchos aprendieron, luego por silabicos: ma – ma: mamá

Asi como en las matematicas de sacar cuentas con palitos o con los dedos, esta ultima la amo, aun la uso hasta para sacar cuentas de las fechas je je je.

Leer un libro en fisico, que llevar un libro en el bolso, para leerlo cuando uno estaba en una cola sea del banco o esperando en el consultorio del medico, marcar la pagina donde dejamos la lectura para luego seguir, pero eso si habia que estar pendiente de que no se nos quedara el libro en cualquier parte. Ahora los libros son digitales desde cualquier dispositivo electronico: computadora, celular, tablet, hay unos que son descargables, pero hay una desventaja que es el miedo de andar sacando el celular donde quiera para leer.

Lo mismo pasa con la musica, que decimos que las mejores fueron la de los ‘80, los que somos de los ‘60, en cualquier de sus generos a mi me gusta mucho las chatarritas, esos merengues de antes que dan ganas de bailar donde este sonando. Musica que dejaban algo, enseñaban, las letras tenian un gran significado, no como muchas de ahora que distorsionan, pero son las que le gustan a los chicos de hoy y cuando escuchan unas de la vieja escuela dicen: uy que oso.

No quiero decir que lo actual no sea bueno, pero prefiero muchas cosas aun de la vieja escuela, de la nueva tengo que agradecer que estoy en esta era de la tecnologia y que aprendi a usar la computadora, hacer muchas cosas en ella, como la de estar aquí.

Another thing that makes me feel like I’m from the old school, from when I was a teacher, was the old-fashioned teaching methods. Even with all this technology and digital advancements, I still believe the old way is best; that’s how I learned, that’s how I taught my students—like teaching them to read. At first, it was difficult when we used the sub-syllabic or letter-by-letter method: m with a: ma, m with a: ma, says “mama”. It took longer, but many still learned. Just like in math, doing calculations with sticks or with your fingers—I love the latter; I still use it even to calculate dates, hehehe.

Reading a physical book—carrying a book in your bag to read while waiting in line, whether at the bank or in the doctor’s office, marking the page where you left off so you can pick up later—but you had to be careful not to leave the book lying around. Now books are digital and accessible from any electronic device: computer, cell phone, tablet. Some are downloadable, but there’s a downside—the fear of pulling out your phone to read wherever you are.

The same goes for music; we say the best was from the ’80s, but for those of us from the ’60s, regardless of the genre, I really like the old-school tunes—those merengue songs from back then that make you want to dance wherever they’re playing. Music that left a mark, taught something—the lyrics had deep meaning, unlike so much of today’s music that’s distorted. But that’s what kids today like, and when they hear some old-school tunes, they say: “Oh, that’s so lame.”
