Hi there! welcome back to my old DOS gaming blog. Here in this blog, i will be updating my article about old games especially game that was released for MS-DOS Platform.Here, I would not be just reviewing the game, but also try to experience how it feels to play the game. I am reviewing or playing these old games is in order to bring back or just remembering all of those sweet memories that I have in the old days. So, for those of you who never play the game that I reviewed in my article, do not worry, you still be able to play the game now, at the end of my article, i will give you the information on how you can install the game on your current PC or Mac, or if you do not want to do the hard work by installing this game, I will also give you the link so that you can play the game online. Alright, let's start the review.
STARGUNNER
For today's post, I would like to review another old DOS game to bring back those sweet memories. The game that I am going to review today is a game that belong to the genre of shooter video games. A shooter video game is consider an easy game to play. Especially for this game that I am going to review is a very easy to play. There is only 6 control needed to play this game. The gameplay itself is also very easy, there is no much thinking required to play this game.
If you are following my article until now, you will probably notice that I have review about this kind of genre video game a lot before you can check and see my other post about shooter game review. The video game that I am going to to review today is called Stargunner. You probably know from the title itself that this game is a video game that considered Sci-fi shooter game. The gameplay is taking place in outer space.
And now, before I am going to start talking in details about the video game. I would like to make a quick reminder that this video game is available for all ages, this is not a violence video game. So, this video game is not restricted to age and it is available to be played by a wider range of age. Another good thing is that, this video game is a very easy game to play. There is no thinking such as the one in a strategy game required to play this game. So, this video game is very suitable for those of you who want to just play this game for relaxation.
Alright, Now, Let's start talking about this video game. We will start about the history, development, gameplay, game modes and give my opinion on this game at the end of this article.
Now, let's begin by learning a bit about this video game development.
Stargunner is a video game that belong to the genre of shooter game. This video game is a horizontal scrolling shooter computer game. The game itself was published by Apogee Software game developer company. In term the development. There some contradict information. According to wikipedia, this video game was developed by Independent Australian Developers. But from another source it says that this game was also developed by 3DRealm or in another name is Apogee Software. So, Apogee Software was the one who developed the game and published it. Stargunner was release for Microsoft DOS platform and also for Windows platform. This video game was released in the year of 1996.
In term of the gameplay, I think this video game has one of the best gameplay. Well, off course, it is a biased claim because I love playing space shooter video games. In this video game, the player will control a space craft in a horizontal perspective view and the space craft will go to the right side in term of the game progression. Enemies will approach from various direction. The enemies could approach from in front, from below, from behind or above. The enemies could be in a formation ship or a lone flyers. The enemies is not only ships, but also in the form of base weapons that located from the environment or the map.
In term of the map, it is similar to a common map with another side-scrolling shooters game where the maps have a linear in which enemies and also some power-ups will appear at the very exact same place and time for every time the game is played for the same map. Each of the gameplay will be differentiated from one level to another level by a large amount of enemies and also the amount power-ups available.
The storyline of the game is explain inside the game itself. When the game first start, there is a short video that look like the one in the Star Wars movie that tell the storyline of the game. The story said as the quote below:
In the far distant future, an epic war for survival takes place... Deep within the Andromeda galaxy, the people of Zile grow restless and greedy. The Zilions secretly prepare for a massive strike against the nearby planet Ytima. Fearing such an attack, the Ytimians train an elite squad of "Stargunners.
In the game, the space craft that the player will control can be modified. There is a store available inside the game to buy the space craft part that will make the space craft better. Each of this part have different power-ups. The player need to choose a suitable one for each mission or the one that the player like. For details about the space craft part is can be seen from the table below.

My opinion about Stargunner video games.
To be honest, I have never played this game before and for me, after experience the game for some time, This is now become my favorite game. Actually i have install the game on my computer. The good thing is this game is available for free in Steam. This video game that available in steam is support for Windows and Mac platform.
