The monumental building of the State Bank in the style of the Florentine Renaissance occupies a place in the town-planning aspect on the corner of the Theater Square and Sumskaya Street.
The building was erected on the project of the St. Petersburg architect R. Golenishchev in 1897-1900.
In 1932, the building was completed on the design of the academician of architecture A. Beketov and architect V. Peti.
Originally the building had two and a half floors. Earlier, the facade of the building was completed by a powerful cornice and parapet, decorated with vases. When the upper two floors were built up, these elements were dismantled, but the overall stylistic character was preserved. The superstructure is manufactured using a variety of types of building up the walls under the roof, which are lifted by the jacks as the walls are laid.
Since 1991, the building of the Kharkov branch of the National Bank of Ukraine.
Although at the moment most of the building is leased.
