While many people are stuck at home unable to work, that is not the case for all of us. Depending on the job you perform, you may be considered an essential employee.
In concrete, once we start pouring the housing foundations, there's no stopping until they're finished. We often reference the joke by Tom Hanks in the movie A League of Their Own.
"There's no crying in baseball".
Well there's no stopping in concrete, but this Covid-19 thing takes it to a whole nother level.

My job on the site is code enforcement. On this job, the Concrete Company sent all the trucks one after another so that they all backed up. Well we have to have them unloaded within 90 minutes which was a real challenge.
There's no stopping in concrete.
And no traffic to slow the trucks down during Covid-19.
Another part of my job is to make concrete cylinders for testing, as you see in the image above. These end up going to our laboratory where we break them using a compression testing machine.
While having to work during the Covid-19 pandemic, the portable potty is the one place you don't want to have to enter. Unfortunately, there's no way around it. So.....what do you do? Don your mask, gloves, and don't touch anything. However you can manage that!!!
We finally managed to clear out the many trucks waiting in line to pour concrete. I went back to the lab, then checked another job site for a few minutes before making it safely back home.
At least I think I'm safe. I guess I wouldn't know if I picked up the virus for a few days anyway. All I can do is keep clean, wear my mask, and social distance.
How are you dealing with work or lack thereof during the Covid-19 pandemic? I'd enjoy hearing any stories.
Stay safe out there!!!
