The realities of life in a lot of situations and circumstances are most times far, far different from our expectations. In most cases and scenarios, life is not always a case of 1 +1 being 2. To most people life is not fair. But is it really so?
the more you look the less you understand
Some scenarios in life honestly begs the question. Perhaps we should put them in proper perspective for better understanding.
It is generally given, the world over, that celebrities makes money, In fact majority of this set of people makes crazy numbers as money. To put it in the context of this prompt, too much money.
A recent publication puts Kyle Jenner, an American female celebrity as having a networth of over $900 million. Roger Federer, a tennis start also has a networth of over $450 million. Same can be said of other celebrities, even down to our own local celebrities.
We read and see so many celebrities being signed onto multi million dollar deals. Owning and Buying beautiful houses, awesome automobiles and living lives that most people can only dream of.
Just recently a Nigerian celebrity bought a Mercedes Benz Maybach worth about $600,000. Insane! Most people and professionals will not see this kind of money in their lifetime.
Unfortunately this same lifestyle of affluence can not be said about most other professionals. Taking teachers and some doctors as examples we will see a great disparity in remuneration. Where celebrities live a life of affluence and wealth, the others lives a not too palatable life.
one would then ask , why is this so? Especially if you factor in the fact that most of this so called celebrities are not half as educated and learned as this professionals. Is the society being fair?
Above everything, one needs to understand that fairness is rather subjective. What A finds fair can be far from being far to B
To further understand this, it is important we look at certain factors that aids this disparity. In the first place, the term celebrity is like a Toga, more like an added tittle to someone.
What am trying to say in essence is that anyone, in any profession, can achieve celebrity status if they manage to accomplish certain feats and threshold. A teacher, farmer, lawyer, mechanic, doctor, can be a celebrity if they fulfil this conditions in their field. In the same vein, not all actors, athletes, musicians are celebrities simply for the same reason, they have not met this thresholds.
A celebrity is someone who through his or her craft has gained popularity, fame, wealth and recognition. This has in turn made the person quite visible to the media and in the eyes of the people. Through this the person creates a huge fanbase and cult like following that they influence in a whole lot of ways.
Suffice to say, companies, organisation and individuals will always leverage on what this set of people has been able to build in other to project and gain traction for their products and services. For this to work, they pay premium price to this celebrities.
It is a free economy, generating massive returns is always the aim of the game. Anything that will give added value and mileage to their products will always be considered highly. This is where this celebrities come in and this is why they are heavily paid.
A friend imported some products. Try as he could, It was really difficult for him to dispose those products. He was advised to liaise with an Instagram influencer. What he sold through the influencer's platform in a day was more than all he had sold in 3 months. This is more like a microcosm of what value this set of people brings to any brand. It can never be overemphasised.
Like earlier said, it is a free economy. Value and some other factors drives worth and remuneration, which to me totally makes everything fair.
Which lastly brings up the question, can something or should something be done to check this disparity? The simple answer depends on the individuals.
Nobody is stopping anyone from being a celebrity. If you want that Toga, if you want that kind of celebrity money, you must attain the needed thresholds.
Work hard, be popular and famous. Command a huge fanbase and following
Then other things will fall in place, QED.
