After spending 8 years in an apartment...it was just in the nick of time! The opening image is a shot from the back of our new place, looking out over an area close to where we lived before.
It felt right to feature the image of open nature instead of starting with the closed in walls of our domicile. There's a lot of open space, parks, and bike paths in and around our new community.
We finally finished hauling all of our possessions (along with more than a few new acquisitions) and settled in on the 12th of February.
The owner of our new home had to evict the previous tenants and we had to wait until the 17th to have the gas turned on. Luckily, we still had the shower at our old place and at least electricity here.
Most of the pics I'll share are from today, though I'll end with a few of our old place for contrast. We do miss our old neighborhood and especially our neighbors, but we couldn't have picked a better time to move.
Today's home showcase begins from our back patio. Looking up to our youngest boy's bedroom window and what do we find? None other than my lovely wife Erin, arranging the stuffed animals on his bed. And acting goofy!
Heading in to grab some frames from the inside and my oldest son Devin has a few things on his mind. He tells me while wearing his headphones, listening to music.
Actually, today was cleaning day and he motivated himself to help out. Just like he always does. He really isn't anything like I was at his age.
Anyways, that's him standing in my way on the threshold of our back patio sliding glass door.
Entering from our back patio leads right into our dining area with the kitchen to the right. We scored this new hardwood dining table for a steal.
Making the lady happy is important and being able to host special occasions makes her happy. We have full confidence that it won't be long before we're able to that again. At least we're ready now!
He knows I'm up to something
Thanks for moving, Devin!! Now there's our kitchen with all its space compared to our previous one. Out of camera view is a double sided deep bucket sink. It has the pull out hose nozzle with the blast or spray toggle switch. So cool.
taking a 360, it's back out to the patio. Catch a glimpse of the same open field from the feature image through the garage door. The garden is coming along quite well indeed.
Here's the other side of our patio area that adjoins the town house and garage. A nice little palm, lime tree, ferns, weeds and other flora sit mostly in the shade.
We need new outdoor furniture...and a clothes line...
Having a washer and dryer is a huge addition for us, as we used a public onsite washroom before. The room was usually busy and people would wash their doggy mats. I can't imagine how they are managing it now during the #lockdown.
Outside the garage is a view of Interstate 78 with Mira Costa Jr College behind it. We used to live just on the other side of that hill. To left is west, and the ocean 5 minutes away. We'll be allowed to return there soon, so they tell us.
Back inside and into the somewhat untidy living area. The sectional couch nearly broke my back trying to get it in but it is comfy. A new flat screen is just another drop in the moving expense bucket.
This shoe rack is an easy build and perfect if you have a spot like this to place it.
Upstairs are the two kids bedrooms on the right, bathroom in the middle, and master bedroom on the left. There's some cupboard space and pictures we still need to hang...
Inside the master bedroom. This is where my wife now sets up for work most days and where all the action happens. If you know what I mean.
Out on the deck from the master bedroom is a nice view of the neighborhood. To the left is our neighbors deck with old glory holding her salute.
God bless the USA!!!
The old apartment' kitchen with little Logan hard at play. He never made an appearance during my photoshoot today.
Our old living area. Autistic kids love to pick and tear at things like paint off the wall. My wife will lose it if that happens in our new place. He already magic markered the new dining table.
Devin sitting at our old dinner table that was stuck in a corner with no other place to keep it. He sure looks happy though.
And truth be told, nothing has really changed in that regard. It goes to show....home surely is where the heart is.
Hope you're hanging in there, especially if you're having to stay home under a lockdown order. Signing off until next time.
