I focus on the root, on that Latin word ingenium that pulses through our DNA. Etymologically, being an engineer means possessing an “inner genius” to devise, produce and create. In this revealing light, I understand that engineering is not a privilege exclusive to university lecture halls, but the very essence of our human identity.

I have looked closely around me and discovered the mastery of everyday ingenuity in every corner. The baker who precisely adjusts the humidity of the environment so that the dough comes to life is, without a doubt, an engineer of nutrition. The mother who devises complex logistical strategies to ensure there is enough time for affection and sustenance acts as an engineer of family harmony. Every human being carries within them a particular talent, an innate skill that they use to untangle the knots presented by everyday life.

We are all architects of improbable solutions. Life constantly throws challenges our way and we, driven by that ingeniator within us, devise ways out, devise solace and build solid bridges over the chasms of uncertainty. It is not just about machines of iron, but about the invisible workings of our transformative will. That is why, when I say I am an engineer, I am not talking about a profession, but about my belonging to a species that never surrenders to chaos. To recognise our own genius is to validate our capacity to reinvent the world. We are, by nature, tireless creators of reality.
