About Gridcoin

Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency which securely rewards BOINC computation on top of proof of stake.

What's BOINC? BOINC is an open-source volunteer distributed computing platform which utilizes the spare computer resources on 500k+ computers to attempt to cure diseases, map the milkyway, search for extraterrestrial life, and any other kind of distributable computation.

Anyone who needs a serious amount of distributed computing power (100k+ CPUs) almost entirely for free can create a BOINC project to create a distributed cloud service of their own desire (fairly easily) whilst the Gridcoin network potentially rewards your project's volunteers on your behalf.

Community

Team Gridcoin earned 511m credits earned in one day, thats huge! To put that into context the next team on the daily output list managed 238m (half of GRC's output). We're on our way to take 1st place in the all time historical computation leaderboard in approx 70 days!
The community has organized the printing of physical 3d plastic GRC tokens to commemorate the 1 millionth GRC block!
We have continued observing a growing userbase, with the majority of the Gridcoin's productivity visible on Slack (Ignore the warning message on signup).
We have received complaints requesting an increase in moderation of the IRC channel, these have been taken under advisement and the OPs are discussing options.
We have continued holding Gridcoin community hangouts on a fortnightly basis, the next hangout is the 35th hangout on the 21st July (This Saturday at 9PM BST (compare to your timezone!)). Everyone's welcome to join in!

When filtering Coinmarketcap by non-premined/non-minable, Gridcoin is ranked 41st!

Development

Continued superblock downtime

Three leisure updates have been released to patch multiple superblock issues, there have been additional issues observed which are actively being worked on by the Gridcoin volunteer developers. Don't stop crunching though it shouldn't be too long before we've sorted this all out!
The development branches are far further ahead in terms of development than the current production (even latest leisure) releases. The dev branch will require a mandatory upgrade so we can't release the change without a testnet phase and a large notice period, thus many of the issues in the current production client have been fixed but aren't live yet (so we're currently in a bit of a grey area before the mandatory upgrade).

Improved GUI & branding
