His parents would always call him and try to caution him, asking him to change his behaviour. Initially, he would even give them a listening ears and sometimes he would even promise to change. However, as time passed, he got worse and would not even listen to anyone. His parents were really worried about him, and they even decided to invite one of his uncles, whom Charles had really liked and respected.
His Uncle came around and had a one-on-one meeting with him, trying to convince and explain the impact of his actions and to explain to him that every action has a consequence. Charles had only listened to his Uncle out of consideration, and after a while, he even walked out on him. His Uncle inquired about the kind of friends he mingles with, and after finding out, it was also concluded that his friend had also influenced him to become who he currently is.
All attempts to separate him from his friend proved abortive, and so the family had to neglect him, hoping that one day he would change, as he was bringing shame to the family. Charles is currently homeless and alone, as everyone else had observed that he was not ready to change, as he still drinks and smokes. Hopefully, one day the prodigal son would return, and we all simply hope that it would not be too late then.
