"Your health is your priority and your responsibility. Making excuses about why you can't work on improving it, laying blame on others for lack of it or the inability to live a better and healthier life or expecting others to take control of your health and wellbeing so you don't have to is irresponsible and destructive. The last year has been a mixed bag as far as health and wellbeing goes within my immediate circle.
Some have become very sick, some passed away and others have dramatically improved from illness or in their general wellbeing and health; this, from physical, emotional and mental health aspects, and it has brought sadness, happiness, anger, disappointment and optimism.
I've heard and read people say that the government should do more for people's health and certainly stricter regulations around what goes into people's food is an area that could be advantageous. I've also seen it said that free fitness instructors should be provided by the government and also that a person's financial situation negates their ability to live a more healthy life.
I'm not so sure.
All that aside, I believe a person has a strong responsibility to themselves to work towards a healthier lifestyle. It is a choice and making a choice costs no money. But a lot of people's choices are not made well - they choose to do the wrong things not the right.
They choose ease-of-use processed foods, fast/junk food, a sedentary (non active) lifestyle, spend on want-purchases then whine there's nothing left to spend on healthier food and lifestyle options, consume excessive alcohol, smoke cigarettes and other such things that aren't conducive to good health.
Walking and running is free. A pre-made salad pack from the supermarket costs less than a Big Mac meal loaded with carbohydrates, sodium, fat and sugar. The internet is loaded with different free work-out plans that don't require a gym, weights or any other equipment and most require less than 30 minutes a day. Stretching and calisthenics is free. Fresh produce is cheaper and better than processed and ultra-processed foods and humans know how to cook, or can learn. Taking the stairs is free. Resources to understand diet and exercise are all over the internet, for free.
Want to be more healthy for free? Here's a no-equipment workout you can do at home.
Want to see how easy it is to eat more healthy? Look here as an example.
It's easy to eat the wrong things and not exercise.
Your health will decline from the inside out though, you'll get fat too, other complications will occur like heart attack, stroke, diabetes, circulation issues...there's a long list. That'll affect your mental health and then you're on a downward spiral. Eating excessive amounts of sugar, carbs, fat, sodium, seed oils, additives, colourings, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and processed foods is not good for you...and neither is making ridiculous excuses about why you have to eat them or can't exercise.
Want to be slimmer and more fit? Then do the things you need to do to be slimmer and more fit and stop blaming your fatness on the government and everyone else, your job commitment, the weather, being tired or anything thing else except yourself! You're to blame fatty!
You're responsible for your health and fitness. I'm not saying there shouldn't be some stricter laws around food production and labelling, some education around better eating and exercise, (there are campaigns in Australia that do exactly that already), what I'm saying is that people need to take ownership of and responsibility for themselves and their own actions - To think someone else will come along and do it for them is nuts. Can't trust that you wont go to the pantry and fridge and choose unhealthy options? *Don't put the unhealthy things in there in the first place! You're responsible.
What do you think?
Do you blame others and not yourself? Do you take responsibility and ownership? How do you work towards being fitter, leaner and healthier generally? Why do you think you don't have to? What are your senseless excuses for not being more active? Comment below if you'd like.
